Love On The Hellmouth

Early the next morning the entire gang arrived at the abandoned Sunnydale High. Buffy lead them through until they reached a big spat tht the bottom of the stairs. She looks them over, “Welcome to Sunnydale High. Okay listen up. When the vampires get upstairs we have three areas they could get through to another building and down into the sewers.” She starts to point them out, “Down the hall in the atrium, the north hall here, and the primary target, through the lounge to the science building. Odds are, most of them will head there. Easy to find, big, no sunlight. So I want Willow’s team in the lounge, Xander and Anya’s team in the north hall and Andrew and Dawn’s team in the atrium. One last thing, if anything happens down in the Hellmouth, something weird, you are to retreat. Get on a bus and get the hell out of here. Let’s move out.” Buffy goes to Dawn before she can leave, “Dawn...” “No. Anything you say is gonna sound like goodbye.” She continues to walk away with her group. Buffy turns back to Kennedy, Angel and Spike, “Let’s go.”
The two Slayers and two vampires head down to the basement. They stand around the seal. Kennedy hands Buffy Andrew’s knife, “You first.” Buffy takes the knife and cuts her hand letting her blood drip onto the Seal. Kennedy Angel and Spike follow suit. The four of them hold their hands above the Seal and watch as it starts to open. When it is open they head down. They wander further into the Hellmouth. Spike, who is wearing the amulet comes up to Buffy, “Not to be a buzz kill, luv, but my fabulous accessory isn't exactly tingling with power.” “I’m not worried.” “I'm getting zero juice here. And I look like Elizabeth Taylor.” Kennedy stifles a laugh, “Cheer up, Liz. If they kill us in seconds, won't matter what you wear.” “I’m not worried.” They reach a precipice, beyond which is an endless cavern of Ubervamps. They look down. Buffy is beginning to panic, “I’m not worried. As long as Spike’s amulet does something before they…” As one the vampires see the small group and charge. “…See us.” Tirstirst wave hits, the vampires swarming over the edge. The four take the mass and beat it back. Killing the vampires quickly and easily. Some vampires get through and head up the Seal.
In the high school the gang hear the coming army and prepare for war. Most are ready but Anya is terrified, “Oh God. I'm terrified. I didn't think... I just figured you would be terrified and I would be sarcastic about it.” Molly tries to help, “Picture happy things. A lake. Candy canes. Bunnies.” Anya’s eyes narrow she has found her courage, “Bunnies. Floppy, hoppy, bunnies.” The vampires come at the gang who are holding their own. None of the vampires getting past them. A group of Bringers soon join in the fight but the groups are keeping them at bay also. Not one of the gang fall during the fight.
Back in the Hellmouth the four are still doing damage to the endless supply of vampires. The amulet on his chest momentarily concerns Spike. “Uh, Buffy...?” But she is too in the heat of battle to hear, as are the other two. “Whatever this thing does... I think
it's... AHHH!” He drops to his knees stunned by sudden pain. Buffy calls out to the other three, “Keep the line together! Drive them to the edge, we can't let them…” A sword suddenly slices through her back, pops out of her chest then retracts. Buffy turns and kills the vamp. Slowly she falls to the ground face first. Angel sees and calls to Kennedy. Kennedy makes her way to Buffy, who still lies on the ground. “Buffy? You have to get up.” Buffy weakly replies “Hold the line...” She hands Kennedy the scythe. Kennedy doesn’t want to take it. But Buffy doesn’t take no for an answer. Kennedy takes it and starts killing the vampires around Buffy, protecting her.

Spike is still trying to fight even though the pain the amulet is causing is getting worse. Buffy is trying to get enough strength to get up. She looks up to see The First, looking exactly like her, wound and all. It kneels down so it can look into Buffy’s eyes, “Ooh! Ow! Mommy! This mortal wound is all itchy! You pulled a nice trick. Hey, you came pretty close to smacking me down. What more do you want?” Buffy pulls herself up on her hands, fury clearly in her eyes, “I want you... to get out of my face.” The First looks suddenly worried as Buffy rises. She is sweaty, bloodied; hair in her face but has nothing but resolve in her eyes. The First is gone as she takes a few steps. Kennedy sees Buffy and throws the scythe back. Buffy catches it and feels the power intensify. She swings the back of the scythe’s blade like it’s a bat knocking the vampires back over the edge.

Spike still in pain stumbles under the Seal’s opening. “Oh, bollocks. Angel hide.” Angel finds cover just as some kind of energy shoots up from him, straight through the high school continuing through the ceil The The noon sun pours straight back down hitting Spike. He is pinned, pain and something else building in him. Angel retreats upstairs and calls for the gang to retreat. Spike calls for Buffy. She sees him and races to him, Kennedy not far behind. Buffy collapses next to Spike. They watch as rays of pure, soulful sunlight blasts out of the amulet and into the cavern. It wipes out the vampires instantly and even starts tearing apart the cavern. Above ground the group feel the Hellmouth breaking. Angel leads them outside. They get on a school bus and head out of Sunnydale.

Buffy and Kennedy stay with Spike who is still pinned in place with energy still blasting from him. “I can feel it, Buffy.” “What?” “My soul. It's really there. Kinda stings. Go on, then...” “You've done enough, you can still…” “No. You beat 'em back, it's for me
to do the clean up.” Kennedy picks Buffy up, but Buffy refuses to leave. “Gotta move, lamb. I think it's fair to say school's out for the bloody summer.” They watch as the cavern is collapsing at the top and bottom. Buffy still wont let Kennedy leave. “I mean it. I gotta do this.” Spike hold up his hand and Buffy takes it, interlocking their fingers. They have a moment then both hands burst into flames. Buffy ignores the flames. She looks him in the eye, “I love you.” He smiles, “No you don't. But thanks for saying it.” Spike pushes them away, “It's your world up there. Now GO!” Kennedy, carrying Buffy runs up the Seal and heads into the school. Spike looks back at the destruction in front of him, and smiles. “I wanna see how it ends.”
