I do not own Buffy the Vampire Slayer, its characters, or its settings and do not make any money from writing this story. I’m just playing with them a little bit.
Let Me Get This Strait
****A/N- I wanted to appologize for my lack of updating recently. My old laptop kicked it (I'm just glad I had save this story somewhere else as backup). So as a special holiday gift I will be posting two chapters today. :) Hope you are still with me!****
“So wait let me get this strait.” Buffy paced the length of the living room. Her small hand pressed to her forehead. “You drove to Nevada with Spike, slept in a hotel with Spike, went into some caves with Spike, met some creepy blind lady with Spike, made-out with Spike, nearly killed the remainder of the Initiative with Spike, went to Africa with Spike, went to another plain with creepy blind lady, ended up here alone with souled Spike.”
“Yep that about sums it up.”
“So wait why did you leave with Spike in the first place?”
“He was leaving and I just went along. I needed time to clear my head.”
“The bleached menace was leaving and you thought this a bad thing?”
“Buffy something horrible happened. I couldn’t leave him alone. It wouldn’t have been right.”
“So did he tell you about the thing that attacked him? Point me in the right direction and I’ll kill it.” Buffy sat and sipped at Spike’s forgotten hot chocolate. “Hey thanks for the drink.”
“Don’t thank me thank Spike. I made it for him but apparently he needs spanked and slaughtered instead of chocolaty goodness.”
Buffy shrugged and took another sip. “You’re being all avoidy.”
“I am not. I’m just researching. See the book, see the concentration, all research mode here.”
“What are you looking for? A way to stop Spike’s wiggins?” Buffy nodded her head towards Spike’s sleeping form that she had pulled up onto the couch.
“Well that I’m pretty sure he just has to work through that himself. I’m looking for a way to stop…uh to find out what kinda baddy is coming that brought those D’rave’g’na demons into town.”
“Uh huh now how about the truth. You said you would explain things.” Buffy said as she tapped her foot on the ground.
“Just don’t go all slayer on me ok?”
“Yeah fine whatever now spill Wills.”
“Something happened. Something triggered the primal spirit inside Xander. He’s the one that… he’s been…Buffy it’s Xander that…with Spike…”
“Is that what Spike told you?” Buffy asked annoyance filling her voice.
“No Spike didn’t say anything, he didn’t want me to know, he wanted me to not know actually in the sense of ignorance is bliss kinda way.”
“Then how do you know?”
“Xander’s phone call.”
“Xander talked to you while you were away? He never told me he talked…oh” Buffy lowered her eyes to the ground. “How did I not see this?”
“None of us did, well except for Spike. There has to be a way that we can stop the hyena without hurting Xander. Oh hey! What if primal Xander is going to bring about the apocalypse?”
“Please this is Xander we are talking about.”
“And it was Xander that almost raped you and Xander that turned Spike into grounded meat.” Willow shrugged and bit on her lower lip. “I don’t want to think this about Xander but…”
“No I know but it’s Xander. Just trying to digest Wills.”
“And since you know you cannot see yourself, so well as by reflection, I, your glass will modestly discover to yourself, that of yourself which you yet know not of.” At some point in their conversation Spike had woken back up. He was holding a small candle holder looking into with such deep passion, “See I learned my lines.”
Willow smiled at Buffy’s confused look, “Shakespeare. You did very good Spike.”
He smiled a real true smile at Willow before he turned his head. He covered half of his face with his hands, “Oh don’t look, not at me. I don’t have anywhere else to go so please let me be here.”
“Sure Spike. You can stay here for as long as you want.” Willow answered softly before turning back to Buffy. “Tomorrow night I’m going to take him back to his crypt so he can get anything he might not have packed a few days ago. Will you stay here today with us?”
Buffy nodded, sadness filled her face as she listened to Spike’s rambling. His once arrogant air gone and was replaced with a scared lost child. She placed the tranquilizer gun on the coffee table. She stood and stretched before she walked over and crouched down in front of Spike.
“Hey.”
“Are you real? I thought I killed you once. They’re all in here talking to me. Everything and everyone I…you are real right?”
“Yeah I’m real.” Buffy took his cool hand in hers.
He pulled back like she had burned him. His blue eyes locked onto Willow in panic. “Not yours hers. I’m hers don’t touch. Did this for her not you. No touching.”
“Sorry Spike I didn’t…look do you want to go in the basement and help me train?” Spike’s gaze went back to her. He studied her as if to find the underlying meaning behind her request.
“Go ahead Spike. It might be fun.” Willow smiled and lifted up her book. “I’m just going to be up here reading all day.”
“Not the book. Put it away.”
“No Spike it’s a different book see. No author.” Willow handed him the book. Spike lifted the book level with his eyes and looked at it. He cocked his head and sniffed the large old book. He nodded in satisfaction and handed her back the tome.
Spike stood up and became very serious, “I have to go. There are things here without permission. I have to check their slips. Make sure they have…authorization.” He started to walk towards the basement.
Buffy gave Willow a confused look then shrugged. She quickly caught up to Spike and had to stop. He stood very still in the doorway to the Kitchen. He slowly turned around and looked at her. Fear and agitation kissed his features before he grabbed Buffy by the front of her shirt. He lifted her off the ground and growled in her face.
“Keep your ticket you’re going to need it.” He then set her back down and continued walking.
Buffy stood and watched the retreating form as it disappeared into the basement. She turned to Willow who was sitting there with her mouth agape. Buffy seemed to struggle with the idea of going into the basement with the crazy vampire or sitting with Willow going through the books.
“Oi! Slayer you coming?” Spike called from the basement making the decision for her.
“So wait let me get this strait.” Buffy paced the length of the living room.
