Visionary Kiss II Part 11
INT. SCARAB CHAMBER - DAY
The Warden dropped an amethyst-scarab into his pouch, then greedily started prying away at another. Ripping it off as well, he blindly dropped it into his pouch. Only this time he missed and the scarab quietly fell to the sandy floor. The Warden too excited about his find never noticed. If he had, maybe he would have seen that the scarab on the floor begun to transform.
The amethyst started to glow. Something inside began to wiggle, as if the amethyst had actually been some sort of strange cocoon. Then it split open and a real live hideous scarab beetle scurried out.
It raced over to the warden's shoe, quickly burrowed into the leather and vanished inside.
All of this would have been seen, but in his greed the warden had not noticed anything until he felt what the beetle did. His eyes flew open and he began to scream, dropping his k and and frantically he began clawing away at his pant leg.
Clawing his way up his body, higher and highntilntil he ripped open his shirt revealing a large, hideous lump, burrowed under his skin. It burrowed its way up his fat belly and across his hairy chest.
The Warden clawed and scratched at it, tying to stop it.
The lump burrowed up his neck, he started gagging and coughing,
And then the scarab-lump vanished into his head.
INT. IMHOTEP'S CHAMBER - DAY
Willow felt a little stirring of magic, dark magic, the one that was here to make sure that nobody would dare to come here and take what is not theirs to take. But it being so small and not very close that she shoved it away.
She was exactly where she wanted to be, leaning over she cleared the dirt off the top sarcophagus, with a loving touch that would have made everyone in the room wonder, but only if Evey had not been doing the same thing.
Both men knew that these two women had it bad for long dead people. As they watched them working slowly revealing a single, ominous hieroglyph.
Evelyn stared at it, while Willow walked a little away so Jonathan and Rick could take a closer look. The British man impatiently strummed his fingers across the lid.
"Well? .... Who is it?"
Evelyn stared at the hieroglyph, confused and concerned, "He that shall not be named."
O'Connell dusted off a hinge lock, "There's some sort of lock here. You say these things' are made of granite with a steel interior?"
"Quarried granite with a cobalt lining."
"Whoever's in here, sure wasn't getting out." Everyone looked strangely at Jonathan.
"No kiddin', without a key, it'll take us a month to crack this thing,"
"You will need the key."
For a long moment Evelyn looked at her friend. Willow could see the wheels turn and then as if a light suddenly clicked on in her head Evey began to jump up and down.
"A key! That's it! That's what he was talking about."
"Who was talking about what?" Now Rick was really confused, he watched as Evey started rummaging though the pack on Jonathan's back.
"The man on the barge. The one with the hook, he was looking for a key."
As she finally pulled the key/box out with a sound that made known her triumph Jonathan had nothing better to do than to try everything to get it back.
"Hey that's mine!"
He was slapped by Willow and all of them watched as Evelyn's hands quickly unfolded the box, now it was shaped exactly like the lock's keyhole.
Evelyn smiled at them ready to try to open the sarcophagus when they suddenly heard the Warden's screams echoing though the labyrinth. Evey jumped back having momentarily forgotten about everything else.
All of them turned and took off running.
INT. LABYRINTH - DAY
The warden was steadily screaming, his voice already rough, dancing insanely around the labyrinth, totally freaked from the extreme pain in his head.
The group ran up just as the Warden began ripping his own hair out of his head. The men grabbed his hands, but he was already far too crazed, he shoved them aside, running full bore down the length of the labyrinth and slammed his head straight into a rock wall. Where he dropped to the ground.
Dead as lead.
Eyes wide open.
O'Connell, Evelyn and Jonathan just stood there staring, breathing hard, wide-eyed themselves.
Willow turned away, this had been the magic she had felt. She knew that she could have saved him. But she was not here to do so and this gave her a strange kind of peace. Too many had already died today and it had only just started.
EXT. BASE CAMP - NIGHT
Evelyn and Jonathan were nuzzled up to a campfire. The night was cold and dark. The stars bright and untouched by the time. Willow walked over and sat down beside them.
"What do you suppose killed him?"
"Did you ever see him eat?" Jonathan giggled and waved to Rick as he made his way to them, crawling over some rocks.
"Seems the Americans had a little misadventure of their own today, three of their diggers were killed."
"How?" Evelyn shuddered she could still see the empty eyes of the warden and hear his screams when she closed her eyes.
"Salt acid. Pressurized salt acid. Some sort of ancient body-trap."
"Maybe this place really is cursed"
Before Willow could stop herself; a gust of wind blew though the camp. The fire flickered, painting strange shadows over their faces. The men shared a nervous look, then turned to a laughing Evelyn.
"Don't believe in curses, huh?"
"No. I believe if I can see it and I can touch it, then it's real. That's what I believe."
Rick cocked his rifle, giving her a big grin. "I believe in being prepared."
Jonathan opened the Warden's pouch, the one he had found near the place the man had died. He reached in, scouring around.
He screamed in pain and ripped his hand back out of the pouch.
O'Connell and Evelyn both jumped.
"WHAT?! WHAT IS IT?!"
Jonathan sucked his finger, then Willow moved over to him and reached into the pouch, pulling out a liquor bottle, the top had been chipped off.
"Seagrams!"
Jonathan grabbed the bottle smiling, the redhead tuned the pouch inside out and shook it, nothing but sand was inside.
"Well, he may have been a stinky fellow...but he had good taste" Jonathan took a swig, O'Connell and Evelyn laughed guiltily, while Willow turned away from the group.
She opened her hand and looked down onto four amethyst-scarabs. Shaking her head she closed her fingers around them, crushing them to sand.
Rick suddenly kneeled down and stuck his ear to the sand, watched by the others.
A beat could be heard.
And then a barrage of gunfire was heard coming from the American camp.
O'Connell jumped up and threw the elephant gun to Evelyn, who had been standing beside him.
"Stay here!"
He took off running through the ruins. Evelyn immediately got up and ran after him. Jonathan grabbed a gun, still holding the bottle of Seagrams; tight and dashed in after her.
"Evey! Excuse me! But didn't the man just say---!"
