The Question
Title:
Title: End of Days
Chapter: Chapter Fifteen – The Question
Author: Queen Akasha
Rating: NC17 in some chapters
Summary: B/S. Season Seven. Couldn’t leave Anya and Xander hanging. This chapter’s about them. (I love Anya – really admire a woman who always speaks her mind! I’m trying to be more like her. Why do you think my friends won’t return my phone calls lately?)
Disclaimer: OK. I phoned my mom and told her I was leaving my husband for a bleached blonde vampire. All of a sudden she shows up at my door with the rest of the family in tow. What’s an "intervention", anyhow?
Spoilers: This is my fictional season seven. Anything up to the end of S6 is fair game. I’m Alternate Universe from about "Normal Again."
Distribution: Sure! Let me know and I’ll even send you updates!!

"It’s just not working out this way. Not for either one of us."
Anya looked up at Xander with trepidation. "I’m sorry, Xander," she said, glancing down at her feet. "I guess I have been rather accusing about the fact that you left me at the altar. I’ll try to not remind you about it constantly."
"No, Ahn," he said, cupping her chin with his hand and tilting her face up to his. "It’s not you. You’re perfect. It’s me. I’m a stupid man."
"Oh, you’re not THAT stupid, Xander," Anya replied automatically. "Remember that time when we were watching "Wheel of Fortune", and you guessed all the answers before any of the contestants? That was pretty smart."
Xander smiled and let go of her face, caressing her cheek gently with his fingers, before taking both her hands in his. "I’m saying this wrong. Maybe it would be easier if I ………. Well, here. What do you think about this?" He released her hands and reached into his inner jacket pocket, handing her the envelope that resided there.
She opened it cautiously. "A plane ticket?" She was surprised. "To Las Vegas? Why are you going to Sin City, Xander? Are you leaving me for a showgirl? ‘Cause I remember how much you liked it when I wore that head-dress that one time …………"
Xander interrupted her, smiling. "Count the tickets, honey," he said gently.
"Two tickets?" Anya looked at him confusedly. "But why ……….."
He captured her hands in his again, dropping to one knee. "Anya," he said, looking up at her and allowing all his love to shine from his eyes. "I’ve been a fool. You are the most perfect and wonderful thing to happen to me in my whole miserable existence. And when I think that I might’ve lost you, well, I want to die. Anya," he squeezed her hands tighter, "I know I don’t deserve you. But I know I need you. I love you more than life itself. Please, come to Vegas with me, right now, and let’s get married. Just the two of us. Whaddaya say, baby?" He grinned winningly up at her, trying to ignore the trip hammer beating of his heart. *This is why guys kneel to do this,* he thought at the back of his brain. *Cause if I were standing right now my knees would give out on me.*
Anya waited the space of two heartbeats (about ten of Xander’s supercharged ones) before dropping to her knees in front of him. She put her forehead against his and sighed. "Xander," she pulled her head back so that she could look him in the eye. "You broke my heart," she said simply and honestly. "I don’t know if I could ever really trust you. Do you guarantee to never hurt me again?"
"Ahn," Xander said seriously, "there are no guarantees in life. But I love you. And, if you marry me now, you’ll always have the uuper hand throughout our whole marriage. And," he continued, reaching for the case in his pocket, "you’ll also get this."
He handed the purple velvet case to her, and she snapped it open. The huge clear rock on the ring inside caught the light from the streetlamp, reflecting it back in a prism of rainbow colours. Anya gasped at the grape sized stone.
"It’s only cubic zirconia, Ahn," Xander said so she wouldn’t misunderstand. "But I promise to replace it with a real diamond as soon as I can afford it."
And Anya, his capitalist chick, his material girl, removed the ring from its case and placed it on her finger. "This one will do just fine," she said. "Just fine."

Viva Las Vegas!!!!! We’ll go there for Xander and Anya’s wacky wedding soon, but next we have to check in with Spike and Buffy. Where is fav favorite vamp taking our heroine on a date? And you know, after the date there’s usually at least a kiss g’night. (But in Buffy and Spike’s case there might be more …………)
Stay tuned kids. And, BTW, thanks so much for the many reviews. I guess there are some people reading this out there. Keep on reading and keep on reviewing – it really does help me to write. Bye for now….
