JOURNAL NOTE: Hi, This is Willow writing this entry into Buffy’s journal for her. She is busy right now with Spike ironing out their issues. I’ll post this entry like I’m Buffy talking or just telling a story. She already filled me in on her thoughts on the events written on this page. So this is me clearing my throat assuming Buffy’s voice and pretending to be her. (Insert giggling here)

“Illyria…Harmony can you smell anything on the body that would give a clue as to who killed him?” Buffy asked, looking around at the startled faces that were staring back at her in confusion.

Without moving from where she was standing and cocking her head as if hearing something the rest of us couldn’t hear, Illyria flatly replied. “The bomb in his body has been reactivated.”

“I hear a whirring sound,” Harmony worriedly scrunched up her face. She began wringing her hands together as she started backing up towards the front doors.

All eyes then turned toward the slain body of the assassin lying on the counter.

“Illyria, can you disarm it? And do I really have to ask you this?” Buffy groused, annoyed that she was just standing there like she couldn’t be hurt from the explosion.

“No, I have already disarmed it once,” was Illyria’s steadfast reply.

“The memories from my shell Winifred, tell me that you cannot stop it once it has been activated a second time.”

Casually walking toward the corpse like she had all the time in the world, Illyria shoved her hand in the abdominal cavity in an attempt to shut off the timing device.

“It is like I said before, it cannot be deactivated a second time. It can only be disarmed one time as a fail safe feature in the event it is triggered by accident. By design and intent it allows for human error just once.” Illyria removed her hand and started backing away.

“Great,” Buffy exclaimed. “Everyone get out right now!”

“The lowly humans will not have enough time to get to a minimum safe distance,” Illyria said.

“Well this lowly human votes that the ones with the super powers get away while they still can and we can try to work some magic,” Xander stepped forward determined to not have panic take over.

“Yes, quite right,” Rupert added in a calm voice. “Dawn why don’t you let Faith and Kennedy take you outside to safety. Buffy, Willow, Xander and I will stay here and deal with this situation.”

Understanding his tone and hidden meaning, Faith and Kennedy nodded their heads at Giles. They had quickly accessed the situation when Giles and Xander accompanied Dawn on her trip. With a mole in their midst, Dawn’s safety had become their first priority.

“No, I want to stay,” Dawn protested but was cut short when she was thrown over Faith’s shoulder in a “Firemen’s carry” as the slayer headed for the front door.

“Let’s go!” Faith barked out and all the slayers started running out of the building.

“Robin, Sam get the other instructors and get to your cars and motor out of here,” Buffy ordered.

Buffy turned around and walked back to join Giles, Xander and Willow who were standing over the corpse of the cyborg.

“I’m too weak to teleport it out into space,” Willow despaired. She looked dejectedly at the others.

“Remember combo super Buffy when we defeated Adam?” Xander asked. “Well since we’re dead anyway why don’t we do the joining spell and get rid of our bomb body.

“That won’t be necessary,” Giles cut in. “All we have to do is let Willow take some of our strength like she’s done in the past and that way we won’t provoke dire consequences…again. Is that okay with you Willow?” Giles asked.

“Yeah, why don’t we join hands and I’ll begin before we run out of time,” Willow instructed.

Buffy, Giles Xander and Willow joined hands and Willow proceeded to chant a teleportation spell in Latin. The corpse began to glow and it started to fade into thin air.

Finished and drained they all let go of each others hands and Giles and Xander immediately sink down to the floor looking exhausted.

“Boy, that takes some powerful juice to perform,” Xander panted as he looked at a pale looking Giles sitting next to him.

“Seems like old times, doesn’t it?” Xander smiled as he looked at Buffy supporting Willow and setting her down on the nearest chair.

“I’ve missed the core Scoobies,” Buffy affectionately replied. They all got solemn remembering those lost in the good fight until their contemplation was broken with the sounds of fighting outside.

“Now what,” Giles groggily asked. “Don’t tell me that our girls are under attack outside.”

“He said that, I didn’t,” Xander yelled out pointing his finger at a scowling Giles. Knowing that making remarks like that around the girls was reason enough to get a swat upside the head.

Buffy didn’t waste one second, she immediately rushed toward the double doors and flew through them. Outside, she found the slayers engaged in battle against vampires. Apparently they had been ambushed before they even got near their cars.

“Damn!” Buffy swore. “Dusk had barely turned into night bringing this latest attack with it!”

Frantically looking around, she spied Dawn fending off two vampires. Kennedy and Faith surrounded her but they were outnumbered three to one.

Whipping out a stake she immediately jumped into the fray cutting a path towards Dawn who was in turn protecting Suzy Finn who was fighting two vampires cornered on her own. The vamps were trying to separate Suzy away from the others and Dawn was determinedly fighting off her vampires while looking over at Suzy trying to make sure that she was alright. Sam had been knocked unconscious and Suzy was standing over her body trying to keep the vampires from dragging her away.

Seeing red that her sister and Suzy were being herded away from the protection of the others, Buffy made her fury known when she staked one vampire fighting with Dawn. She then casually grabbed the other and jerked him to face her and staked him before the other had finished dusting with the same wooden stake.

Both Buffy and Dawn turned around to see where Suzy was and noticed that she was being held by the throat by a grinning Angelus. Standing next to him looking hauntingly beautiful was Drusilla dressed in a long crimson gown.

“Hello lover,” Angelus drawled. His eyes appreciatively raked up and down her body as if he was looking at her without a stitch of clothes on.

He looked handsomely beautiful, just like when she had first met him. The pig’s blood that he had drank for years must’ve been replaced with human blood. It had rejuvenated him back to his former youthful appearance. The pained expression of sadness was erased off his face and replaced with a look of wicked glee. He was back to spiking his hair the way he used to wear it when they had first met. He was wearing a black silk shirt, leather jacket, pants, belt and shoes.

Buffy looking over his new and improved appearance did not escape his attention, as he grinned wickedly at her and sneered.

Chuckling, he handed Suzy over to Drusilla as the child stumbled from the hard shove Angelus gave her almost making her fall. Drusilla grabbed the whimpering girl by the arm and kept her steady on her feet. Her gaze at Buffy never wavered the whole time. Buffy tried not to look into those hypnotic doll eyes of hers for fear of becoming lost within their depths.

“Be a good girl poppet,” Drusilla cooed at the child. “Mummy will take very good care of you.”

Looking very trim and agile, Angelus slowly swaggered towards Buffy causing her slayers to rush forward in an attempt to surround Buffy and protect her from her old arch nemeses.

Buffy immediately raised her hand effectively stopping the others and letting them know without words that it was okay to let Angelus approach her. Faith was already standing a few paces behind her and Buffy knew that she would protect Dawn if anything should happen to her.

Smirking at the tension filled slayers, Angelus winked at Faith. “Faithy, you are looking lusciously homicidal as always,” Angelus sneered. Faith flipped him the finger in reply making him giggle manically at her expected response.

He resumed his exaggerated gait towards Buffy. He definitely was showing off his new physic and leered at Buffy once he stood in front of her. Moving his head forward so that it was beside her neck, Angelus took a big whiff of air inhaling her scent.

Buffy did not back away or flinch at his antics. She knew how much he enjoyed playing head games, so she calmly maintained her composure. She wanted to demonstrate to him and to the others, that he could not affect her. Having died and resurrected twice had taken her fear of impending death away. But that didn’t mean she wasn’t cautious and ready to defend herself should he decide to attack and bite her. She was proud that her heartbeat remained steady and unwavering with his close proximity. That alone should be enough to tell Angelus without words that she did not fear him.

Suzy, however was a whole different kettle of fish. For some unexplained reason, she felt close to her and sensed that Dawn did too, judging by the way she was trying to protect the girl during the fighting. Just what was it about her that felt familiar? Like family? Suzy reminded her of her mother Joyce with her mannerisms. Buffy could not help but to feel drawn to her. That was something Angelus would try to exploit since he had seen how Buffy and Dawn tried to protect the girl.

“Mmm, mmm, mmm, Buff. You smell good enough to eat.” Angelus mocked, laughing at his own sick joke. “I noticed you looking me over. Tell me lover, do you like what you see? I’m on a new diet called vestal virgin. It is low in calories and high in purity.” Angelus chortled, as he erotically ran his tongue over his lips before smacking them together.

Assuming a haughty tone and attitude, Angelus continued. “I really had to do something after Angel made our ass look fat from ingesting pig’s blood. But swine for swine’s, I always say. Good riddance to losing the broody one,” Angelus crowed nuzzling his cool clean shaven cheek against Buffy’s warm one.

“Buffy, you surprisingly seem to have low friends in high places. I cannot touch you without serious repercussions to my new position as head of “The Black Thorn,” Angelus said, as he lovingly ran the back of his large hand against her soft cheek.

“It seems that my old rival “The Immortal” has a great deal of influence with the Senior Partners and has convinced them that you are not to be harmed. But that doesn’t mean that I can’t play with those you love or care about Buff.”

Feigning a piteous look that did not reach his eyes, Angelus shook his head at Buffy. His disapproving eyes raked her petite frame from top to bottom as he contemptuously tsked at her. “It’s a shame that you had to lower your moral standards and become his latest fuck toy, Buff. You do know about our rivalry and why he decided to amuse himself with your…inadequate talents. Don’t you, lover? Why he even went through all the trouble to arrange for Spike and Angel to fly to Rome under false pretenses so they could see you gallivanting around with him.”

Buffy fought hard to control her pulse rate and not show any outward signs of shock at the knowledge that Angel and Spike had traveled to Rome. They had seen her with Rammy. They must’ve been so deeply hurt that they didn’t even bother to let her know that they were in town. Not wanting to give Angelus the pleasure of knowing that he had unnerved her, she decided to play along.

“He told me,” Buffy flatly stated. “He also told me how he had you trussed up like a Christmas goose while he screwed Darla and Drusilla till they couldn’t hardly stand anymore. So really who is the inadequate one here?” Buffy triumphantly gloated. She was not about to disclose any intimate details about her relationship with Tim to Angelus, especially not in front of an attentive audience.

Drusilla began to hum and sway in place. Mumbling something about pony rides, making everyone laugh at the euphoric look plastered on her face.

The growl rumbling from Angelus made Drusilla abruptly stop and whimper as she held steadfast to a struggling Suzy.

Facing back toward Buffy, Angelus cursed. “Fucking bitch!” He vamped out but then just as quickly changed back to his human guise.

“Oh, My! If you keep calling me names, you just might hurt my wittle feelings. And you really don’t want to do that,” Buffy feigned a hurt look on her face as she pouted and fluttered her eyelashes at him.

“Oh baby, if you only knew what I would love to do to you, if I had half a chance,” Angelus whispered. He inhaled sharply intimately pressing his body against hers. He made Buffy squeak when he erotically thrust his hips forward to show her how hard he was over their bickering. “The fun we could have Buff.” He grinned at her shocked reaction. “Oh yeah babe, I see handcuffs, whips and sex toys in our foreplay,” he flirtatiously cooed.

“But Spike has already seen to your education as he tells it,” Angelus teased. He smirked triumphantly, when he got the desired reaction he was looking for when Buffy’s posture stiffened at the mention of Spike’s name.

At that point, Buffy decided to let him have his fun taunting her. She would patiently wait and see just what he wanted from her. She tried to ignore the snickering coming from Drusilla as the vampiress languidly stroked Suzy’s hair. Behind Dru, she could see a shadowy figure hiding in the dark shadows that had yet to reveal itself. She figured to just let Angelus play his hand and see where it leads. Besides she did not want to endanger Suzy by recklessly angering Angelus further. He had already shown that he was trying to restrain his murderous temper. No reason to test his ability to rein in his demonic lust for murderous mayhem.

“Yeah, Spike gave me a blow by blow description of your time together,” Angelus titillated. Grinning, he began to grind his pelvis against her eliciting a startled gasp from Buffy. His demeanor showed no outward signs of caring of who saw what he was doing.

“I am anxious to find out just how well you learned to use that pretty mouth of yours and those special slayer muscles under his tutelage. After all it was almost like me teaching you personally, since I taught him everything he knows,” Angelus hissed. He deliberately kept his face close to hers. Looking straight into her eyes with all the guile and malevolence his demon could muster.

Buffy pushed him away from her, stumbling back a few paces he just stood there laughing at her scowling face.

“Cut the crap Angelus. Spit out just what the hell you want from me. That is, if you are even capable of doing that.” Buffy was disgusted with the mind fuck games that he reveled in so much.

“Angry baby? Was it something I said?” Angelus mocked.

“Not angry lover,” Buffy purposely emphasized the last word. She in turn rubbed her body against his making him react by emitting a sound that was a blend between a purr and a low rumbling growl.

Drusilla giggled like a small child when she heard his involuntary response. He whipped his head around and shot a disapproving glare in her direction making her pout and shrink back whining. She looked like a contrite child cowering over angering her “Daddy.”

Buffy just smiled victoriously. Glad that she could still affect him no matter how much he tried to hide or deny it. She knew that he hated showing human weakness and his lack of control over reacting to her body rubbing against his qualified as one.

“Well Buff, I see that the virginal girl I deflowered is now an extremely tainted and adulterated woman. One who spreads her legs far apart for any creature that wants to settle in between them.” Angelus eyes were chipped, cold shards of glass, mirroring his cruel demonic nature.

Buffy felt her cheeks flame. She saw the satisfaction plastered over his face. He was pleased with the knowledge that he had touched a raw nerve with her. Before she could think about Suzy and the danger she would place her in, her temper took over and she slapped his face hard, leaving a red hand imprint on it.

Angelus’ only reaction was to chuckle and rub his flaming cheek as he rumbled, “Buffy are you trying to turn me on? Cause really, what would the children say?” Sniffing the air, Angelus gleefully remarked. “You’re arousing Drusilla and making her jealous. I think she wants to join in on our fun!”

Looking past Angelus, Buffy gazed back towards Drusilla with trepidation. She immediately recoiled in revulsion at what she saw. Noticing Buffy gazing at her, Drusilla saucily tossed her head back to display the sultry look she wore on her face. She clearly wanted to show Buffy that she was extremely aroused by her violent actions. She then erotically licked her lips in a lewd manner followed by obscenely flicking her tongue at the blonde slayer.

Buffy turned her attention back towards Angelus when she heard him cackling like a deranged hyena. “I’m tired of these childish games of yours, so let’s just skip forward to the part where you tell me what you want,” Buffy irritably spat out.

“I want to save the world,” Angelus giggled as he quoted Spike’s words to her astonished face.

At Buffy’s stunned silence, Angelus continued his diatribe. He jauntily strutted in front of her happy to take her off her guard with that simple phrase.

“I want to find out who is responsible for the cyborgs and their attacks against me and Wolfram and Hart. I want you to find them and eliminate them for me. In the meantime, I will find and eliminate the idiot demon factions that want to stir up trouble. The senior partners have made it clear that they don’t want any more escalation of trouble.”

Looking at him suspiciously, Buffy asked. “And what do I get out of this considering I’m doing the dirty work for you.”

Pointing at Suzy, Angelus said. “You get this cute young girl back alive and unharmed.” Angelus donned an innocent look on his face as he said this.

The hairs on the back of Buffy’s neck prickled with worry. Suzy was about to be taken away. That thought deeply disturbed her. Her gut instincts told her that he had ulterior motives and that he was not giving her all the facts.

“What makes you think I’ll let you leave here with Suzy?” Buffy challenged.

“You have no choice lover, even you can’t fly,” Angelus turned around and gestured at the figure lurking in the shadows.

Stepping out of the shadows and into the open light of the moon, a reptilian looking figure appeared.

“Buffy meet Senias, he is a shape shifter,” Angelus formally introduced.

Before anyone could move Senias transformed into a dragon and grabbed Suzy with one of his clawed feet and flew off into the night sky. Screams followed his wake from the distressed slayers on the ground.

Buffy was incensed that Suzy was easily abducted. Grabbing Angelus by the lapels of his leather coat, she shook him and issued a warning to him.

“If one hair on her head is harmed Angelus. I’ll send you straight back into hell and that is my solemn promise,” Buffy hissed at him.

“You fulfill your end of the deal and you get her back all safe and sound. Fail and you get her back in pieces. Do we have a deal?” Angelus extended his hand out waiting for Buffy to shake on it.

Slapping his hand away, Buffy grunted her agreement.

“Don’t trust him, he doesn’t honor his deals,” Illyria stepped forward confronting Angelus and his betrayal to her.

“Illyria,” Angelus purred. “What a surprise! How very interesting it is to see you alive and here, working beside these lowly slayers. How demoralizing it must be for you to be their trained lap dog when you once considered yourself the god of gods.” Shaking his head Angelus looked at her with feigned pity on his face.

“You betrayed me because you fear me.” Illyria accused.

“You know as much fun as we could have had in the killing fields; I’m not in the habit of bringing into the fold someone who clearly would kill me first chance she got to take over the leadership of “The Black Thorn. The Senior Partners were very disappointed when you weren’t killed during the battle. Sure they knew that you had aspirations of killing them and taking over their domain, so you see it was not in my best interest to bring you on board.”

“Pray we never cross paths in battle,” Illyria threatened. “I’ll tear out your lying tongue and feed it to rats, I’ll eviscerate…

“Will you SHUT UP!” Angelus bellowed. “My souled half could not stand your speech-i-fying and neither can I. So do us both a favor and just crawl back into whatever hole you crept out from and just die!” Angelus exaggerated gestures showed his extreme annoyance at her perceived idle threats.

Turning back to Buffy he told her before moving back towards Drusilla. “Remember Buffy if you want to see the girl safe again, you will honor our deal and I will keep my word to you. You have one month before I start sending pieces of her back to you for motivation.”

~*~*~*~*~*~

Gathering up the wounded Buffy helped Faith carry Sam back inside the Hyperion. Buffy almost dropped Sam when she heard Spike’s voice echoing inside her head. He was simultaneously communicating with her and Willow.

Spike had been indoctrinated into the art of mental telepathy with Willow during the time when Buffy was dead.

Her mental telepathy with Spike developed later when they became lovers. She was hard pressed to not drop Sam and fall to her knees crying tears of joy knowing that he was still alive or undead as it were.

“Hello Red…Cutie,” Spike’s voice purred. “Gather up the nibblet and her luggage and all three of you head out to the La Brea Tar Pits. I’ll be there to meet you along with some old and new friends. Oh, and Red, bring my leather duster. I left my lighter in one of the pockets and if you could, be a luv and mojo it back to its original state. Kay? Well have to scamper off, TA!”

“Typical Spike,” Buffy grumbled. “After all the drama I’ve gone through that’s all I get, a mental summons that was short, sweet, demanding and cryptic. Filled with major confusion as to why go to a place that is closed down for the night. Spike is so weird but hey, already knew that!” Buffy told Willow.

Anyway, we finally managed to settle everyone down and hand Giles and Xander keys to Buffy’s private elevator. They were going to begin researching the books and contents Wesley had stashed inside the trunk. Her private floor had 4 available guest rooms that they could use during their stay at the Hyperion. That would allow them to research without any disturbances from the training and day to day school activities.

Faith, Willow and I informed Riley and Sam on what happened to Suzy. Riley immediately arrived to help Sam cope. She was having an emotional breakdown over Suzy’s abduction.

Having gotten everyone to where they should be, Willow and I packed Dawn’s luggage in Willow’s vehicle and started heading toward the La Brea Tar Pits.

“Where are we going?” Dawn asked as she looked around the city as we traveled.

“We’re going to see Spike,” Buffy cautiously stated.

“Spike? Spike’s alive?” Dawn’s voice was beginning to get screechy with her excitement which was beginning to grate on Buffy’s already frazzled nerves.

“Yes, Spike is alive and he contacted Willow and myself telepathically,” Buffy nonchalantly stated, unaware of the hurt look settling on Dawn’s face. “He didn’t contact me,” Dawn whispered so low that Buffy and Willow almost didn’t hear her.

“I think he thinks that I’m still mad at him,” Dawn pouted as her eyes began to mist over.

“Oh Dawny, he could never be mad at you, he just didn’t want to startle you that’s all.” Buffy began to rub her back in comforting circles.

“But I threatened to set him on fire and I treated him bad Buffy. I never got the chance to tell him that I forgave him for what he almost did to you. He died and all I could do was wish that I had taken the time to tell him.” Dawn began to cry feeling overwhelmed with emotion over seeing Spike again.

“Oh honey, he always knew you loved him, he never doubted it for one second. In fact the only reason we are going to meet with him is because he is worried for your safety. I don’t know what I’d do if anything ever happened to you.” Buffy visibly shuddered. Her eyes began to mist at the play of emotions running rampantly through her.

Rubbing her eyes Dawn hugged Buffy realizing just how hard it must be on her too. She sat there comforting her big sister and then her thoughts turned toward Suzy and her abduction.

“You know Buffy I felt connected to Suzy when I met her, I know it sounds silly but I felt like she was family. When I touched her, it was like I was touching mom, I know it sounds silly but I really felt that way.”

“I know Dawny, I felt it too. We’ll get her back, I promise, you’ll see. We’ll see her again and find out why we feel connected to her,” Buffy swore.

They finally reached their destination and with some magic from Willow they were inside the park carrying Dawn’s luggage and holding flashlights. There was enough light from the moon to not need the extra illumination but it gave the girls a sense of security just the same.

“So Spike is coming or is he sending someone to get us?” Dawn asked as her wide eyes looked around the area. The place had an eerie vibe to it. It was creepy to think that many beasts had lost their lives stuck in these tar pits.

“He’s coming,” Buffy replied looking around with eyes as big as Dawn’s and Willow’s.

Off toward one of the larger pits they heard a bubbling noise which made them all jump. They shined their lights in the direction that the sound was coming from.

Then in the middle of the pit an area began to furiously bubble and a blobby form began to rise above the tar heading in their general direction.

The blob looked like something out of Buffy’s worse nightmare. It was a big blob of tar with steam rising from its form. As it got closer to them, they noticed two red glowing eyes looking straight at them.

Frightened, Dawn immediately began to scream as she fearfully clung to Buffy. All three just stood there shining their lights on the blob as it steadily advanced on them.

Just as Dawn was beginning to sound loud enough to wake the dead, the blob developed arms and started frantically waving at them. A voice emanated from it saying, “It’s okay, don’t be scared, Spike sent me.”

“Spike? You know Spike?” Buffy stammered surprised at the friendly voice coming from the hulking, frightening looking thing.

“Yeah, in fact he is here with me but I’m protecting him inside me until we can touch solid ground.”

“You ate Spike!” We all screeched as visions of the movie “The blob” started to flash before our eyes.

Then out of the blue Spike’s voice telepathically rang in our heads.

“Bleeding hell, you dozy bint’s, keep it down! You’re making enough of a racket to wake the dead and the embalmed.”

Then words we didn’t understand started spouting out and for once we were glad that we didn’t know half of what Spike was swearing. Every once in a while we caught a “bleeding this” or a “bloody that” and “bollocks!”

The blob finally made it to shore where it began to transform its shape and a crack developed down its center. The mass around the crack started to shift and slid away from its center until an opening resembling a doorway began to appear.

From within out stepped Spike, Connor and Clem without as much as a smudge of tar on them. The blob backed away from them and started to close the opening in its body.

NOTE: The La Brea Tar Pit’s is an area located in Los Angeles – it is the only kind of natural phenomenon that exists in the world.

Vel-Vette’s Lament – only the stout of heart and stomach should read the following!

I had posted a ficlet called “Bugger Off!” and even though I noticed large amounts of hits, reviews were non-existent. Though I know I may be setting myself up for flames from those that feel like the reviewing process is something that is best left up to the reader, I do feel that the author gets motivation to write more when positive feedback is left.

This is me kicking fuzz bunnies by my computer because I had wanted to post more ficlets but lack of response to “Bugger Off!” has me dejected and forlorn so blah! Why bother! LOL! (Insert shameless pouting here.)
