Chapter Thirteen
Spike and Darla heard the glass shattering. Spike was out the door first as Darla grabbed her robe and threw it on. Spike ran down the stairs and into the study. He saw the giant daemon advancing on Buffy and he jumped on its back, gripping its shoulders, but it threw him off as though it were swatting a fly and he landed across the room. Then it grabbed Buffy by the waist, threw her over its shoulder and ran out of the mansion before Spike could even stand up.
Darla stood on the staircase and watched the creature run out the door with Buffy and she laughed. Things were looking up. Now she could have both Angelus and Spike all to herself.
Spike got to his feet and ran outside but there was no sign of the daemon or Buffy anywhere. It was as if they had both just vanished into the night.
