Sam stared wide-eyed and jaw slacked at her brother. Her shirtless brother! Her shirtless brother with kiss bruised lips next to an equally tousled Xander! Giving her brother the evil eye she inwardly brightened as he met her glaze warily.
She was so going to have words with him.
Sam grunted as she was handed another pile of heavy weapons. They had been moving high caliber weapons from the storage for the past few minutes. Everyone got a weapon and was getting a crash course in its use. ‘Whatever John plans to do better be good!’ Thought Sam as she wiped sweat from her brow. She knew! She just knew her brother was keeping her busy so she couldn’t ask questions! Her fingers were covered in gun grease, and the grenade pack strapped around her waste made her jumpy. Having bombs taped to ones ass can do that to you after all.
Sam pouted a bit. She should be aloud to ask questions. Her brother. The man who had closed himself off to her and everyone else, and avoided dating like it was the plague . . . Jumping young men in weapons closets! It was so unlike him! In fact it was way too unlike him . . . and Xander’s outburst? What was with that?
Looking around Sam frowned, everyone even she was acting oddly. She had never been someone to ogle a man, at least not without being subtle. Sam looked around her with a scientific eye. Her brother was acting like a horny teenager, it wasn’t obvious but she knew rear watching when she saw it. John’s heated eyes were glued to Xander. And Xander . . . he was acting like a predator in heat, one trying to woo a strong mate. Like how a female tiger would roll on the ground and rub against her chosen male before mating. Not that Xander had been rolling on the ground . . . But he had been doing a lot of accidental touches. And when one of the other soldiers came too near either of them, Sam could swear on her parents’ grave, that they growled.
The people around the room were also acting on baser emotions. Everyone was falling under a couple categories: fear, lust, and anger. Like a pack of wolves. A pack a caged antsy wolves.
The men that had attacked her were now trying to fight their bindings. They were more then angry, enraged really. And the boys protecting their injured and unconscious friend were acting almost painfully submissive. They were huddled together, wide eyed and watching everyone warily. Sam was pretty sure if she moved toward them they would jump and scatter to a different corner.
Steffen . . . Well Stef was acting like Stef! He was following Xander and Reaper around like a hyper puppy. Though instead of a rattle he was swishing around a knife. Looking at him Sam smiled then blinked. The boy was juggling grenades!
“JOHN!”

Hungry . . . It was hungry! It wanted the meat behind the wall. Snarling in clawed at the metal wall. Like every time before it left dents. The ones that were here before fortified their hole well. Every grate covered. Every door blocked.
Small or big, strong or weak, none of the changed were getting the fresh meat. Snarling the pink red fleshed creature stood. It was tall and ape shaped, one of the stronger ones. Loping over to some rat like creatures, the tall one roared making the small ones scatter with pig-like sounds. Sneering at the rotting meat the beady-eyed monster scooped some up and threw it into its mouth.
Gnawing on a gristle-covered leg bone, the creature stilled when the familiar sound of a rusted door opened a crack. Dropping the vile meat, the creature ran for the door. It just got in sight of the door when a big black thing rolled out. The door snapped shut leaving the monster to scratch at the door like a needy dog.
Hissing the beast left the metal dented and warped but still holding strong. Going to the black thing it tapped it with one of its claws, it hissed at the others of its kind as they came to look at the device too. Then the cylinder started to beep, a green light flashing. As the light flashed faster and faster each creature was grappling for the device like it was a prize. Like how monkeys would fight over a piece of broken mirror.
Though most of the monsters were scattered around the door, the more human ones weren’t. They hung in the shadows, waiting.
A tug of war seamed to happened, monkey like screeches erupted. Clawing and snarling the biggest one crowed as it ripped the black tub-shaped device away from the others and held it above its head. The final beeping went off at that moment.

Everyone was behind a crate, wearing armor, and was holding weapons. Lots of weapons. Even the men who attacked Sam were at least wearing armor. Though they were still tied up, they were going to be lead by rope. Like a couple of dogs.
“How long did you set the timer for?” Whispered Xander as he huddled next to Reaper.
“A minute. So it should go off soon.” Said Reaper just as softly.
“Why we whispering? Do the walls have ears?” Steffen hopped down between them, he had camouflage paint on. Only it was on his lips, with three lines on the cheeks, and the end of his nose. He looked like a lost dancer from the musical Cats, only without the ears and fur.
“I know this may seam like an odd question but . . . Never mind. What did you need Steffen?” Reaper blinked as Steffen hugged him, then flounced away over to Samantha.
Xander grinned. “I guess he needed a hug.”
Shaking his head Reaper ducked as the door blew open. Cocked his gun and grinned at the sound of many more doing the same Reaper stood. “Lets move out. Shoot anything that moves. Chances are it wants to eat you. Kill it before it can kill you.”
Reaper was the first out of the door, and Xander was the last since he and Stef were pulling the two bound men behind them. Gun lights were on and everyone was wearing infrared goggles. A good thing too. Small snake shaped creepy crawlies a foot or two tall were around their feet hissing and wagging serrated tongues. Kicking one like a foot ball Xander wrinkled his nose at the goo on his boot.
“You know the world has enough problems without these things about. How come scientists have to be so stupid for smart people.” Asked Xander as he shot at a bald racoon like thing that seamed quite attracted to the bound men.
“Hey!” Sam hit Xander in the shoulder, a frown on her pretty face.
“Well it’s true! They always try things they’re not ready for.”
“And if we scientists don’t take chances you wouldn’t have some of the cool things you have now. Really some people-” Sam had her hands on her hips, a gun slung over her shoulder, a small crinkle of a frown on her face.
“Enough! Quiet.” John knew the tone of voice Sam was using, if she wasn’t stopped now she would start a science lecture. She would go into teaching mode, homework and all . . . John really wasn’t in the mood for a test.
“You’re giving away our positions.” Said Reaper as they made their way toward the infirmary. He felt watched, so the sooner they were in a safer location the better.
The men tied up were causing trouble, they were struggling against their ropes. Xander grunted as he pulled the man with the bite marks along behind him. Steffen was enjoying the challenge as he tugged the shorter of the big man behind him. He was giggling softly about puppies and training. The ropes around the mens necks did kind of look like dog leashes. Sorta.
“We should have left them . . . In the storage room!” He whispered to no one in particular as he lost his grip on the rope when the big man thrashed violently to the left. When the big guy bolted he ran into Stef, knocking the slight soldier to the ground. Both men now free ran for a dark hallway. Cursing Xander started to follow only to have Steffen grab onto his leg like a small child would.
“Stef! Let go!” Xander tried to get the whimpering young man to let go of his leg, only to have Steffen wrap his legs around him as well.
“Bad way! Lots of eyes! They sit and wait! Like the spider for the fly! Big bad eyes! No sun light and puppies grow cold!” Said Steffen in a high voice. Bending down Xander tried to comfort the young soldier only to stiffen as screams rang out. The sound of eating resonated down the hall . . . snarls and foot steps followed.
“Vibes no-no! Bad way.” Said Steffen as everyone points their flashlights into the dark hall. A couple of what once were soldiers, Xander didn’t recognize, stood at the end of the hall. But Steffen seamed to know them, he huddled behind Xander and kept whispering about vibes, eyes, and hungry emotion. Perhaps Stef was gifted in some way? Maybe he had a sense that the others didn’t. It would explain why he was alive while his team was dead. He could be more like Drusilla then Xander thought.
The soldiers before them were in the middle of their C24 transformation. Three of the four were unrecognizable as human, they had at least eight or so eyes scattered over their faces. Faces lumpy and distorted, clothing a little more then camouflage colored rags. Snarling the creatures ran toward the small group leaving their fresh kills to the smaller creatures. Reaper and Xander opened fire.
“Lets move!!” Reaper said as he downed three but then did a flip over the fourth before snapping its neck. Aiming for the chest Xander left out a breath he had been holding as the two he had been firing at dropped dead three yards from where he was standing. Not having to be told twice Xander took up the rear and headed out. Where ever they were going was better have standing around here. Xander frowned when they ended up at a dead end with a . . . well with a moldy alien butt sticking out of it.
“What is that?” Pointing at the thing in the wall Xander looked at Sam for the answer only to have Stef speak up first.
“Wall was bad! Go through it! Zoom! Cut him in half like a good snack! But it closed its mouth and ate him up early innn the mmmorrrnnnninggggg!” He singsonged.
Xander looked at Samantha wide eyed. He wasn’t as good at Dru crazy talk but Xander was sure he understood at least a little Stef talk. “Were going through that?!?!”
“There is nothing wrong with the nano wall Xander. I just closed it on Dr. Carmack. When we left, it was functioning fine.” Sam said as she typed the code. The body plopped to the floor, Xander watched as Reaper entered. Scanning the area, he motioned everyone to come in. Xander was the only ones still outside the infirmary.
“Can I just go around?” Xander asked only to yelp as Reaper’s arms flashed out and grabbed Xander around his waist pulling him through.
“No you may not.” Smirking Reaper shut down the wall.
************
Sam grinned as she got onto the computer, now that they were kind of safe for now she could find out what is going on. Either the air, food, or water supple was tainted since everyone seamed to be affected by strange mood fluxes. Though Sam doubted it was the water. Each one had a canteen suppled to them before the mission . . . unless Polk messed with it?
Protein bars from the storage room seamed fine, after-all they could keep for years. *Maybe a toxin absorbed through the wrapper?*
Pulling out a bar Sam frowned as a very faint white power appeared on her fingers. Going for the medical equipment, Samantha went into research mode.
***************
“Are we just g-going to keep going from r-room to room?” Asked one of the younger soldiers as he and his friend applied more bandages to their still out cold buddy.
Xander grinned. “If we have to! Better then getting eaten! What’s your guy’s names anyway?”
The one that spoke bit his lip then looked at the floor. “ I’m Gab. A-and he’s Mat.”
“Nice to meet you. So who’s your out friend?” Xander asked as he handed the blond, Mat, a warm blanket to put over the wounded guy. The blond kept to himself and wouldn’t really look at anything but his feet.
“ This big guy is Trevor. Trev for short. He’s a good bloke, just d-don’t follow rules to well. At least not until y-you beat his skull in a few times with a shovel.” Said Gab with a fondness in his voice.
Leaving the timid duo with their sleeping friend Xander searched out Reaper. He smiled as he found the dark man in the back room, he was just standing there like a statue. “John what are you doing? What you looking at?”
He gasped when Reaper turned around really fast, one second Xander was standing the next he was laying on his back on one of the stretcher beds. “I thought you would never take the hint and come and find me . . . Maybe you have a concussion? An injury that I didn’t see. Should look you over throughly just in case?”
With that said Reaper sealed his lips over Xander’s. Moaning Xander wrapped his arms around John, pulling the other man as close as possible. Giving a thankful murmur that John had taken off the vest, Xander let his hands sink under the fabric of the shirt. Wrapping his legs around the man on top of him, Xander tweaked a hardened nipple.
Letting out a soft moan Reaper cupped a hip with one hand then let the other dive into Xander’s hair. Starting an easy rocking motion, Reaper plunged his tongue into Xander’s mouth when the younger man gasped. As they rocked against each other Xander let his hands journey down Reaper’s back to cup the man’s ass. Said hands were about to dive under the fabric when the door opened.
Jumping apart like spooked rabbits, both men blinked at Samantha and Steffen. Samantha’s face was flush, she was holding some papers loosely in her hands. A mild look of shock colored her expression. Steffen on the other hand didn’t look at all surprised. He was frowning at Sam as he tugged on her shirt. He was pouting and frowning at the same time.
“Tried to tell her! They busy! But no listen to Stef! They needed few more minutes for smoochies and sex!” Rolling his eyes and letting out a sigh Steffen left the way he came leaving the others red faced and blinking.
