"Do you want me to stay with you when you talk to your father?" Angel asked while waiting outside the library.

"No. He will likely open up to me only if we are alone." said Spike.

"Ok, I'll be nearby if you need me." said Angel

"Oh, I’ll need you later, luv." Spike winked.

"Sorry to interrupt. I will wait for you in the library." said the Immortal

"No. Were done, lets get this over with." Spike said as he walked into the library with his Da.

"Let's sit down. Explaining may take awhile." said the Immortal.

"I just want to know why you left us?" asked Spike as he sat down on the black leather sofa.

"Ok... Please understand that your mother had no idea I was immortal. She was very religious, as you remember. Her family had protected her from the real world. And like most people, they didn't believe in vampires, demons... and people who can't die. If I had told her, it would have destroyed her faith." said the Immortal.

"I did that anyway when I turned her." Spike said in self disgust.

"Even without your soul you loved her and tried to save her." excused the Immortal.

"I staked her." said Spike.

"I know." said the Immortal sadly.

"So...after eleven years, she started to notice that you didn't age or change, right?" Spike asked to change the subject.

"I told her that all the men in my family aged well. But I knew she wouldn't believe that for long. So I made a decision to protect her from the truth. I made sure that you both had plenty of money after I.... died, and then I faked my death." explained the Immortal.

"Were you really married? Or did you make up another fake name for my mom? She must have been just one of hundreds of women you duped over the centuries!" raged Spike. "How many wives have you had, how many children? Leaving wasn’t a big deal for you! You did it all the time!"

"That is not true. You are legitimate and my only heir. And for your information, I was only married once. I could never love another woman as much as I loved your mother." protested the Immortal.

"What about Buffy?" asked Spike, suddenly concerned for Buffy’s welfare.

"I never meant to do anything that would hurt you. I met Buffy after you died saving the world. I was grieving, and I blamed her for your death. My plan was to... hurt her. I chose not to do it after I heard that you were back and with Angel." said the Immortal "I am also very sorry about Dru as well. Angel told me that you loved her. I thought that you and Angelus were together."

"I bet you loved that. A shirt lifter for a son." said Spike bitterly.

"I was alive when it was common practice. So no, it doesn't bother me. Why should it, so long as you are happy." said the Immortal. "There was even a part of me that was grateful to Dru for turning you. I did not relish the idea of watching you grow old and die. It was why I chose not to marry and have children for so very long. I loved your mother so much though, I couldn't deny her anything."

"Are you going to tell Buffy all this?" asked Spike.

"No, I see no reason to hurt her anymore." said the Immortal.

"You may not love her, but what if she loves you?" asked Spike.

"When she is ready to leave our relationship, I will act suitably hurt." promised the Immortal.

"You should tell her the truth." said Spike.

"If you want. I will leave that decision up to you William." promised the Immortal.

"I don't want that responsibility. It's your relationship, do what you think is right for you both." said Spike.

"Alright." said the Immortal.

"One more question." said Spike

"How do you know about Connor?" Spike decided to be upfront and just ask.

"Don't worry I won't do anything that will hurt Angel or his son." said the Immortal

"I noticed you didn't answer the question." said Spike

"What does it matter?" asked the Immortal "I have many friends in many places."

"Friends like Wolfram and... Hart? The Senior Partners are the only ones who knew about Conner, besides some of Angel's crew. Every one else had their memories changed." said Spike.

"I have done everything I could to ensure your safety William." said the Immortal.

"So it's not a coincidence that our last name is Hart?" asked Spike, the truth hitting him between the eyes.

"My partners will leave you and Angel alone now, I have seen to it. They lost. Be happy." said the Immortal

"You don't consider it a loss?" asked Spike.

"You are alive, I don't consider that to be a bad outcome." stated the Immortal.

"I see. I changed my mind. I want you to leave Buffy alone." ordered Spike.
