Resolutionless

Disclaimer in Chapter 1.

A/N: Please bear in mind that this was only ever supposed to be the prequel to my next big action/adventure story "Sucker Love." I make it sound really exciting, don't I. I don't? Well it will be.

Thanks to everyone who's taken the time to read and/or review this fic. Without you guys this would all be pointless, and I like my life full of point.

So here goes nothing...

Chapter Thirteen : Resolutionless
-----------------------------------------

Faith smirked at the older girl lying in her bed. “I wondered how far you’d let me go before you got too scared to play possum, B.” She nodded in a mockery of congratulations. “Further than I thought.”

“I was not playing possum.” Buffy insisted.

Faith chuckled. “Sure you were asleep the whole time.” She pulled her hand away from Buffy’s body and the blonde’s came with it, revealing anything she wanted to look at. She didn’t though. She just held Buffy’s eyes while the action sank in and it dawned on the blonde exactly which hand she was using to grip Faith’s.

The moment was a good one for Faith, one she would treasure for sure. As Buffy shot a look at her bare breast, blushed so hard that the tips of her ears must have been burning, and…

Faith anticipated her next move and entwined her strong fingers around the blonde’s so when she tried to pull her hand away she couldn’t.

“Faith!” Full-on Buffy pout and whine. Score!

“What B? You’re the one who wanted to hold hands.” Faith was about to go crazy. She still hadn’t looked down at Buffy’s exposed tit and if something didn’t happen to move this along, right now, she was going to spontaneously combust – starting with her pussy and working outwards.

Buffy tried to pull her hand away again, but Faith’s grip was tight and she wasn’t letting go, this was way too much fun.

“Faith I’m warning you. Give me back my hand.”

“Why? You got another, don’tcha? What’s so special about this one? Is it better in bed?” Faith winked, thinking back to Buffy’s earlier demonstration.

“You’ll never find out if you don’t let go right now.”

Faith dropped the hand, and inwardly cursed at her over eagerness, especially when Buffy made it clear she was going to jump all over it.

“God Faith, you’re so easy. One offer of sex and …”

Faith moved lightening fast, and leaning over the older girl, had Buffy’s wrist pinned to the bed before the blonde could blink. “And what, Buffy?” Faith’s eyes bored into the hazel depths beneath her. “I have a normal, healthy reaction to it? Where’s the shit Buffy?”

Faith rolled so she was laying half over the blonde, pinning her to the mattress with her hips. Her legs were astride one of Buffy’s thighs and the blanket the blonde was still half wrapped in was soft and scratchy between the younger girl's legs making it all but impossible to avoid humping. The only touching skin was Faith’s bare foot against Buffy’s calf and it felt like crackling static.

“You’re the one with the problem girlfriend.” She continued in a deep, low voice. “You want it so bad, but you’re too afraid to take it. So you just keep teasing me, hoping I’ll snap and make you take it.”

“That’s…No.” Buffy’s voice was all trembly.

“I think I’m right. Perhaps this is a good time to test both our theories.”

“Wh…at?” Buffy struggled a little, making her covered thigh push up into Faith’s uncovered core. The brunette groaned a little and had to lift herself up and away slightly. This was one hell of a lesson in self control, one she had a feeling she was about to fail miserably. Or maybe it wouldn’t be too miserable, her brain had registered that Buffy had stopped struggling as soon as she had a chance to get away.

“Well...,” Faith dragged the word out, never losing eye contact. “You can see if I’m all talk; and I can see if you want this as much as I think you do.”

“I don’t think that’s a very good idea.”

“This is why I have to find out for myself and not take your word for it.”

“Okay, okay, I take it back. You’re not all talk. I don’t know what I was thinking when I said it, but obviously I was very, very wrong.” Buffy tried desperately.

“Strangely B, I don’t really care about that anymore.” Faith looked down into Buffy’s pleading eyes and tried to figure out what she was pleading for. They were wide with either fear or excitement, probably both in fact, and that was confusing the hell out of Faith.

If Faith thought seriously for one second that Buffy really didn’t want this, she’d stop right now not wanting to ruin the tentative bonds she’d forged with the older Slayer, but she wasn’t feeling that. She was starting to think that Buffy didn’t even know what she wanted, and how was Faith supposed to deal with that. Faith only knew one way, and that was to keep pushing.

“Why are you fighting this Buffy?” She asked. Mostly because she wanted to spur the blonde into a reaction other than lying there looking shell-shocked, but also because she really was curious.

“Fighting what? There’s nothing to fight.” Buffy replied calmly, but Faith could feel the pulse in her wrist racing beneath her fingertips.

“Really? You mean that?” Faith asked. Scepticism was softly made clear, but got no response.

Pushing harder, figuratively speaking, Faith released Buffy’s wrist and gently brushed a strand of hair from the blonde’s face. When Buffy didn’t move, she leaned slowly in to kiss her.

******************************************************

“Faith, don’t...” Buffy wasn’t sure if she’d even spoken out loud, but the brunette hesitated. “I don’t think this is the best idea.”

Faith stiffened on top of her. “So don’t think about it.” If only it were that easy.

God if she could stop thinking for just one second she’d be all over Faith like a rash. A nice rash, not the itchy gross kind obviously. She couldn’t though. Every time her body wanted to leap, her mind reminded her to look first. She’d acted on impulse before, and was still dealing with the repercussions.

Next time she was formulating a contingency plan for every possible worst case scenario, before she even went on the first date. And as Faith had never asked her on a date, Buffy was in no way prepared for what was happening now.

“I…I have to think about it. I have a …”

Faith sat up a little. “You have a what? A boyfriend. No you don’t B, unless you’ve been lying to me.”

“I was going to say ‘Responsibility’.” Buffy used the extra space to pull the blanket fully across her again. Although she wasn’t sure is she needn’t have bothered. Despite all the closeness and weirdness, she was pretty sure that Faith hadn’t looked away from her eyes once to check her out. In fact, apart from the little peek when Buffy had almost lost the blanket on the way back from the bathroom, Faith had been the perfect gentleman, uh, woman.

Which didn’t really fit with the mental picture Faith had painted of herself. Buffy wasn’t sure what that meant, and could she just say again that the past twelve hours had been very confusing.

“Screw responsibility. It can wait until later. Its daylight out there, which is our time off, so can you think of a better way to spend it?” Faith’s eyes twinkled.

“I just…I don’t do this. This isn’t me. I can’t just ‘do’ stuff…” Buffy tried to explain some of what was rushing around in her head, but she wasn’t doing a very good job of it. It was all whirling around too fast in there.

“You’re scared? Scared you don’t know what to do?” Faith asked, trying to understand.

“No, well yes actually, but that’s not what I mean.” Buffy huffed anxiously. “This isn’t what I do. I don’t just go back to a boy’s room and…” She waved her hand in the air, trying to describe in sign language what she couldn’t verbalise.

“Well lucky for us, I’m not a boy.” Faith smirked, but her eyes were serious.

“And that’s another big “Oh my God!” right there!” Buffy pointed out, starting to feel a little irrational hysteria coming on. “I didn’t even know you were, y’know, like that, until I woke up to find you groping me.”

“I was not groping you. You were groping yourself.” Faith shot back indignant.

“You were so groping me, or have you forgotten where I found your hand.” Buffy retaliated.

“You didn’t find it there, you let it go there. I know you were awake B, so don’t go wasting your time trying to deny it. And if you didn’t like me touching you, you wouldn’t have pretended to be asleep in the first place.”

“That’s beside the point.” Buffy tried to back away from the argument.

“It’s exactly the point. If you liked it, why stop?” Faith leaned into her again, braced up on one elbow, a strong thigh pushing between Buffy’s legs and making her shiver. The brunette brought her hand up to Buffy’s shoulder and ran her thumb seductively along her collar bone, to the hollow below her throat and then up to gently hold her chin. “And if you didn’t like it…Stop me now.”

Faith leaned into kiss Buffy again and the blonde’s hands struggled between pushing the brunette roughly away and grabbing the back of her neck to bring their lips together that much quicker. They made up their mind for her, one grasping the blanket tightly to her chest and the other the shoulder of Faith’s black t-shirt. Clinging on for dear life.

Her breath came in hard pants to match her heart beat, as her head pressed back into the soft pillow, tilting her face upwards. Her eyes were open wide, and Faith was filling all of them, and she thought she might cry, but didn’t have a clue to the reason.

Buffy’s lips parted slightly, and she licked the lower one swiftly, wishing vaguely for some fruit flavoured lip gloss to materialise from thin air. Faith, who had been hovering over her waiting for the refusal, seemed to take the lip-licking as a positive and eagerly swooped down. Buffy held her breath and leapt.

Bbbbbbbbbrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrriiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiinnnnnnnnnnnnngggggggggggg!

Buffy jumped as the loud sound of the telephone split through the hushed motel room and accidentally nose-butted Faith in the mouth. “Shit. Sorry.”

“Ow! Fuck you’ve got a big nose!” Faith had one hand to her mouth, gingerly fingering her split lip.

“I have not got a big nose.” Buffy retorted, sitting up and forcing Faith to do the same.

“Jeez, I meant hard, not big. Answer the fucking phone.” Faith sat back on her ankles.

Buffy pulled the blanket tighter around her and scuttled further away from the brunette. “Why should I answer? It’s your phone.”

“Because you just crippled my mouth and it’s what I normally use to answer the phone.” Faith pulled the baggy black t-shirt further down her thighs and shifted over so she was no longer straddling anything of Buffy’s.

Buffy wanted to point out that Faith seemed to be yapping on just as well as she normally did, but there was a tiny bit of guilt there, so she settled for sighing heavily and picking up the receiver.

“Hello, Faith’s place.” Buffy ignored Faith rolling her eyes.

#”Buffy, you’re still there? I thought you promised you’d go into school.”#

Buffy was just not in the mood. “Then why phone me here if you didn’t expect me to be here?”

There was a pause on the other end and Buffy thought her Mom was about to really go off on her ass for either speaking back or cutting class or nearly making out with Faith. Only nearly.

#”Sorry Buffy, I’m just trying to get my shoe on, I’m running late. What did you say?”#

“I asked why you were phoning.”

“Well to remind you to go to school, because I know what you are like, and given half a chance you and Faith would spend all day in bed.”#

Buffy coughed and spluttered. How did Moms know this stuff? “We would not. We aren’t…”

#”Buffy when you’re tired, you sleep like the dead. I’m sure Faith is the same. Anyway, that’s not the only reason I’m calling. Your SAT results just arrived. I thought you might want to come home and open them before school.”#

“Oh, um, yeah, I guess.” SAT scores, could there have been anything further from her thoughts.

#“Right well I really have to go, but give me a ring to let me know how you did, okay Honey?”#

“Uh huh.”

#”Oh and Buffy, just in case I didn’t say it enough. School!”#

Buffy listened to the dial tone for a second before replacing the receiver. “Is your lip okay?”

Faith had been making a good pretence of examining her fingernails while the blonde had been on the phone, but now she looked up again. “I don’t know. Why don’t you test it?” Her anger had apparently already evaporated. Unfortunately, Buffy’s reckless abandon had gone the same way.

Buffy looked down at her lap. “I think we’ve already proved that’s dangerous.” She started to get out of the bed.

Faith grabbed her arm. “Hey, where are you going? I thought we’d come to an understanding.”

“That’s the thing Faith. I don’t understand any of it.” Buffy met her eyes helplessly. “I have to go.”

Faith let go of her arm. “You’re just going to walk out?”

Buffy looked down at herself and then up at Faith. “Well maybe not like this.” She said with a small smile, she saw Faith’s lips twitch a little too. “Could I maybe borrow something?”

Faith kind of shook her head and nodded at the same time and Buffy figured that was the closest she was going to get to a ‘yes’. She moved to the wardrobe and looked for some pants and a sweater.

“But we were…and you were…and then…” Faith was obviously having difficulty dealing.

“And then my mother phoned and started talking about school and SATs and ruined the mood.” Buffy finished for her and went into the bathroom to get dressed.

“I’ll get you back in the mood.” She heard Faith shout from the other room, and laughed.

‘No doubt you could’ she thought to herself, ‘but that doesn’t mean I should let you.’ Buffy just needed time to sort this out in her head, and jumping into things with Faith was just too intense a notion to do while in control of logical thoughts.

Kissing Faith in the heat of the moment was one thing. Kissing her after having time to think about kissing her, that was scary.

Buffy finished dressing and went back into the other room. Faith was laying on her back staring at the ceiling. “Do I look okay?”

Faith gave her a cursory once over. “You looked better a minute ago.”

Buffy blushed and smiled. “Gee thanks.”

“Don’t mention it.”

“Faith, are you sulking because I won’t kiss you?”

Faith looked over at her again. “No I’m sulking because you won’t have sex with me.” She was trying to fight it, but a small smile was trying to grow on the brunette.

Buffy had turned her back on the bed and started picking up her muddy clothes from the mat, but now she looked back over at her sprawled out sister Slayer.

“That’s the thing though, Faith. I don’t have one night stands, or one morning stands, I just… I think sex is about more than that, it’s about being in love.” Buffy explained, and waited for the younger girl to laugh at her. She wasn’t disappointed.

“Love, B?” Faith scoffed. “What even is that? How many people these days do you think wait until they’ve met ‘The One’. Probably about one in a million, not including those crazy religions where they kill ya for it, and even then I bet it’s going on. Sex is about satisfying a need that has nothing to do with hearts and flowers.” Faith had risen from the bed and was walking slowly over to the blonde. “Sex is about raw, intense, deep down desire. Skin on skin, hot, sweaty, undenied want. Cravings based only in the need for shameless, desperate pleasure. Nothing to do with love, B.”

They stood face to face, Buffy with sodden, muddy clothes in her hands, Faith’s hands were splayed on her hips as if showing off the merchandise.

“It is for me.” Buffy said softly, meaning it and knowing with some regret that if Faith didn’t believe in love nothing could ever happen between them.

Faith took a step back and threw her arms out to the side, her head shaking. “Then you’re crazy. How the hell do you survive after a tough patrol, girlfriend, and don’t say you don’t feel it. You must spend a lot of time with your fingers sho…”

“Faith!” Buffy was not going to get into that with her. And she really wasn’t thinking about what she’d been doing in Faith’s shower, which was nothing, just washing… meticulously.

“Well you must.” The brunette insisted. “Don’t you ever just want a warm body there to take over when your hand gets tired?” Faith goaded.

Buffy blushed and scowled. Of course she did, although if she was truthful it was usually a cool body she fantasized about after a good, hard Slay, and if it had been him putting the moves on her this morning, they’d be back in Angelus territory. Which was why they were just going to stay friends and why she didn’t go over to the mansion any more after patrols, because patrolling with Faith was always good and hard and oh God she was still horny and Faith was still standing there in just a baggy t-shirt. Time to go and now!

“I’m not having this conversation with you anymore Faith, I have to go.” Buffy opened the door, preparing to walk out.

“Fuck, B, I’m not trying to piss you off.” Faith put a hand on her shoulder, keeping her on the threshold. “I didn’t mean to upset your little fairytale. I’m just trying to make you see that we could be good together. We don’t have to be all loved up to get naked. We’re both young, hot and single... Why shouldn’t we?”

Buffy gently shrugged off Faith’s hand. “Because I don’t want to.” She lied, feeling extremely uncomfortable. “I just want to go.”

Faith seemed to deflate, but kept her cocky tone as she turned her back on Buffy and went back to the bed. “Fine, have it your own way, your loss.” Without looking back, she lifted the back of her t-shirt slightly and wiggled her ass at the blonde. “Say goodbye now, ‘cause I don’t ask twice.” She asserted, flopping forwards on the bed.

Buffy watched her ass for a second, before quickly diverting her eyes to the floor. She cleared her throat and hesitated for a minute. “Goodbye.” She finally uttered and left, closing the door behind her.

Standing at the top of the steps for a moment, Buffy was torn between going back in and talking this through, and walking away. She worried if she’d just ruined her friendship with the other Slayer. Would Faith take this rejection to heart, or would she just bounce back like it never happened.

And could Buffy bounce back from this? All night she’d been looking at the brunette in a whole new, daunting light. The flirting over the past couple of months that Buffy had put down to harmless banter, now seemed a lot more significant. A lot more real.

If Faith had been a guy, right about now, she’d either be planning their first date, or more likely after the nightmare that was Scott Hope, trying to avoid him at all costs. She couldn’t do either with Faith. She didn’t want to date the younger girl. She didn’t want to date a girl at all.

Faith had already said more than once that she was into the whole dating scene either. ‘Get some, get gone’ was the brunette’s motto, and when applied to idiot guys it was funny, but when applied to Buffy herself, it lost the humour.

Avoidance wasn’t the answer either. They worked together. Even if they could avoid social situations they couldn’t neglect the Slaying just because Faith made her want things she didn’t want to want.

So did they carry on as normal? Or whatever weird kind of normal they usually managed. Or was Faith gonna bring this ‘thing’ between them up, again and again. Was she going to use it to tease Buffy mercilessly, or even worse, was she going to tell Willow and Xander how close she’d actually come to sleeping with her. Did Faith know how close she’d been?

Would Buffy be able to patrol with the other girl without thinking about the hand wandering down her tummy to territory previously un-charted by anyone but herself? Would she have trouble sleeping for wondering where they might have ended up if she hadn’t stopped them? Would she be able to look Faith in the face again without blushing?

Suddenly her own worries over the situation seemed a lot more important than Faith’s, and with a nervous over-the-shoulder glance at the closed door, she hurried away.

**************************************

Faith rolled over on the bed when she heard the door click shut.

“Well damn.” She breathed when she realised she was alone in the room.

This was the first time someone had turned her down ever. Well except Jonnie Redescki, but she’d been younger then, all legs and no tits and thirteen year old boys were only interested in the latter.

Blowing out a harsh breath, she looked around at the still room. “Nothing to worry about.” She spoke allowed to reassure herself. “I know you’ll be back, B.”

That still didn’t settle her current sitch though. Pulling off her t-shirt and flinging it off to the side, she reached under the bed for a dog-eared dirty magazine she kept there for emergencies.

She flicked through the familiar pages waiting for something to catch her eye and decided it was time to steal a new one. One with more blondes in maybe.

Finally finding something she liked, she got comfortable and soon forgot all about Buffy Summers.
