Telling

~ I don’t know if I should tell her Joyce was down here or not. ~ Spike sighed. ~ Bloody hell. ~ He closed his eyes and tightened his arms around Buffy.

“You awake?” Buffy asked stretching and rubbing her eyes.

“Yeah.” Spike said softly.

“What’s wrong?” She asked looking into his eyes.

“Buffy…” Spike sighed. “Your mum’s home, she came downstairs and saw us last night.”

“What? Why didn’t you guys wake me up?” She asked

“I…I pretended to be asleep, I know, took the cowards way out. But I couldn’t face her like that.”

“Did she say anything?” Buffy asked.

“No she just came down here looked at us for a minute and left.” Spike said looking into her eyes. “She knows how I feel about you…what I have done in the past hasn’t always been moral. Buffy…I hope she doesn’t think I …did something. A spell or something to seduce you….”

“Spike…if she did think something like that do you really think she would have left me down here with you?” Buffy asked incredulously.

“Oh…I didn’t even think of that.” Spike pulled her into his embrace and inhaled her scent. “No she wouldn’t have.”

“Well I guess we should go and talk to her.” Buffy groaned and sat up.

“Yeah. I guess we should.” Spike said softly. ~ Probably carving a stake with my name on it for corrupting her oldest. ~ Spike sighed wearily and slowly pulled his clothing over his lithe form.

Buffy was standing at the bottom of the stairs waiting for him. Spike picked her up with effortless grace.

“Spike!” She shrieked giggling. “Put me down.” She couldn’t control her laughter.

“Uh uh Kitten.” He said shaking his head, “I need a shield when I walk through the door to face the wrath of *any* Summers female.” Spike said trying to contain his laughter.

Buffy could feel the tenseness of his body, even though he was joking with her. “Spike wait a sec.” She said softly.

Spike stopped and looked into her suddenly serious eyes. “Whatever my mom says, no matter what it is doesn’t matter.” Buffy said seriously.

“She’s your mum Luv. You need to respect what she says.” Spike looked down at the floor.

Buffy grabbed his chin in her small hand and tilted his face back up. She looked into his eyes. “I love you. Spike. That’s all that matters now. Nothing will change it or stop it.” She leaned in and kissed him softly on the lips.

Spike’s arms automatically went around her and he pulled her against his body. Buffy wrapped her arms around his neck and forgot everything except the feel of his body on her, his tongue caressing hers. She moaned deeply into his mouth.

“So you’re finally awake?” Joyce’s voice interrupted the kiss.

Buffy turned her head and saw her mom standing at the open door. “Hi mom.” She cringed and blushed. “I…uh…”

“Why don’t you two come into the kitchen so we can talk.” She said turning on her heal and sitting at the table.

Buffy looked into Spike’s eyes. She could see how anxious he was. “Spike I promise it will be ok.” She whispered taking his hand and pulling him along behind her.

“Please tell me what went on here while I was gone?” Joyce asked

“Mom…It’s not what it looks like.” Buffy said “Spike …in the past has made his feelings known. I didn’t believe him. Now I do and I have fallen in love with him.” Buffy looked defiantly into her eyes.

“Joyce. I’m so sorry it happened like this.” Spike said softly. He closed his eyes and reached for Buffy’s hand under the table.

“Are you two finished because I …”

“Mom…Spike completes me. He is my equal, nothing is going to stop me from being with him.”

Joyce cleared her throat. “Buffy, Last night…last night I saw how much you loved each other by the way you held each other…as if you were both afraid the other would disappear if you loosened your grip.” Joyce smiled at her oldest daughter happily.

“You’re not mad?” Buffy asked uncertainly.

“You may or may not know Buffy that Spike has confided in me about his feelings for you…I was afraid you’d never give him the chance to prove it to you.” Joyce said giving her daughter a pointed look.

“Mom I was a fool. I didn’t think he could love, could feel anything. I was wrong, and I see that now.” Buffy said squeezing Spike’s hand under the table.

“I am glad you finally did. I know how far he is willing to go. To protect you and give you the longest life possible. I know he’ll help keep you safe.” Joyce stood and embraced them both.

Buffy was elated. This was the first time since Spike was injured that they were patrolling together. “I missed this.” She said softly.

“Missed what Luv?” Spike asked pulling her into his arms.

“Patrolling with you…I did enjoy it, even though I thought I didn’t want you here, I realized while I was patrolling alone how much I missed your company. That’s one of the reasons I actually decided to give us a chance, cause if you can share this…if you can want to share this with me…”

“Buffy …I want to share everything with you, I want to share the rest of my unlife with you…” Spike said passionately. Spike bent to one knee. He grabbed Buffy’s hand in his. “Buffy…will you make me the happiest man on Earth? Will you marry me?” He asked.

Spike pulled a ring box from his duster pocket. He opened it and showed her the ring. ~ Oh god. ~ Buffy thought melting. ~ The same ring. ~

Spike had opened the box to reveal the ring he had given her when Willow did her ‘my will be done’ spell.

“Spike…oh Spike of course it’s yes.” Buffy said wrapping her arms around him and kissing him on the lips. “I love you so much.” She said softly.

“I love you too kitten…this ring is…just temporary…I want to give you a beautiful diamond, but I thought you’d like it, seeing as how it has been your engagement ring before.” Spike said softly pulling her in for another kiss.
