AND REVIEWWWWWWWWW!!!!!!!!!!
Chapter 11
Faiths POV
I walk into the bar and stride over to the table where Willow is sitting alone. I’m still pissed off. I throw myself down opposite Willow. She is watching the stage where four of the potentials are singing the shoop shoop song, Kennedy singing lead and the others backing.
I grimace as Kennedy hits a long note, her voice wobbling and sounding like a strangled cat at the same time. I see Willow put her head down as if too embarrassed for Kennedy to even look. Luckily Lorne has seen me enter and sit down. He comes up to me half running in his camp hand flailing way.
“Faithy!” he says sing-song-ish at me.
“Hey Lorne, how ya doin’?” I ask hugging him slightly.
“Been great, business is booming! As I am sure you can see. Had a party of female demons in here last Saturday for a hen party. Let me tell you that brought me a handsome profit!” he says waving his hands around as he speaks.
“That’s great Greenie looks like you’re having a good night tonight too.” I say looking around at the crowd.
Lorne then looks at Willow. “You going to sing for me, my little willow tree?” he asks smiling at her. She looks unsure. “Faithy will sing later too, wont you Faithy?” he says, not asking more telling whilst smiling. This obviously eases her discomfort and she smiles and nods at him. With that he runs to get us the song listings, drops them on the table then goes to mingle with everyone else around the room.
Kennedy hits another high note, which makes me cringe. At least it’s nearly the end of the song. “Did you know she sounded like that before she went up?” I ask across the table.
“You think I would have let her go up if I did?”
“So what you gonna sing?” I ask skimming the songbook in front of me.
When I say this she licks her finger and flips the page. “Not sure yet, got my eye on a few, what about you?”
“Still don’t know.”
Wood then walks in, he looks out of breath. He spots me and starts to walk over. I look down at the song list.
“Ah ha! Perfect” I say to no one in particular. With that I get up and go towards the stage, get the DJ to put my song on and get up on stage with my silver microphone.
The music kicks in and I start to sing letting the tune and lyrics flow over me. I’m not even sure what’s coming out of my mouth until I hit the chorus to P!nk - U + Ur hand. I feel like I’m back in the bronze. Just letting everything wash over me. Letting all feelings of the bad drain out of me with the music. Which means I break into dance right there on stage.
I'm not here for your entertainment
You don't really want to mess with me tonight
Or any night for that matter. Slayer here.
Just stop and take a second
I was fine before you walked into my life
Or before we went on the date you take your pick.
Cause you know it's over
Before it began
You are so not getting any and after this you will know it Wood.
Keep your drink just give me the money
It's just you and your hand tonight
I look right into his eyes and I sing the last lines of the chorus
I sing the rest of a song in an almost trance with a smirk on my face watching Wood grow all the more uncomfortable each second. His wood making it uncomfortable to sit. Like my pun just there. Well I thought it was funny.
All too soon the song is over and I have to exit the stage. Not before Lorne makes his speech to the audience.
“Well, well, well the slayer can sing. Lets all give the husky little minx a round of applause.” He says starting the clapping off himself then everyone joining in with him. I take a quick bow in front of the stage and walk over to Willow.
“So you decided what you’re gonna sing yet then?” I ask sitting down and taking a swig of my Pepsi.
“Yeah, I think so… you sort of gave me an idea.” She says getting up and winking at me before she makes her way to the stage. The music kicks in and she closes her eyes as she opens her mouth to sing. The first line of Jimmy Eat World - if you don’t, don’t springs to life from her lips.
What’s wrong baby, don’t they treat you like they should?
Did you take ’em for it?
Every penny that you could?
We once walked out on the beach and once I almost touched your hand.
Oh how I dreamed to finally say such things then only to pretend.
Her voice suits this song even though it was written for a much lower pitch. Her voice washes over me like a refreshing shower. Both my attraction and respect for this woman are pushed up a notch or two.
At this point Lorne coming over and sitting close to me distracts me.
“So the Faithy, you and my little willow tree.” He says raising his eyebrows at me. “You really like her, I see good things to come for you honey.” He says smiling at me.
“She has a girlfriend, not like it is gonna go anywhere.” I state taking another sip of my Pepsi so I don’t show Lorne my spoilt-brat-who-cant-get-what-they-want face.
“Well I need to talk to you, about that.” he says seriously. I wave my arm at him trying to listen to Willow. “It’s important,” he states touching my arm. I turn to face him and give him a look.
“I saw something, when Kennedy was singing. She is going to break poor little Willows heart if things go the way they’re going.” He says looking at Willow singing on stage. I also watch Willow and don’t say anything for a while.
On my life I'll try today, there’s so much I've felt I should say, but.
Even if your heart would listen, doubt I could explain.
If you don't don't know, why'd you say so?
Would you mean this please if it happens?
If you don’t know, why would you say so?
Won’t you get your story straight.
If you don’t know, honey, why'd you just say so?
Cause I need this now more than I ever did did.
If you don’t well, honey, then you don’t.
The whole time she was singing she was looking at Kennedy, I just wonder whether the song fits in with her as well as mine did with Wood. I can only speculate and maybe think the worse or Kennedy because she’s a stupid bitch to be lying to Willow.
“Who is it?” I ask picking up my Pepsi glass and taking a sip whilst looking at Lorne. He looks around and rests his eyes on Kennedy, she is sitting a few booths over with Megan, one of the potentials. I look a little closer and see Kennedy’s hand on Megan’s knee. The glass I forgot I was holding is crushed, bits of it all over the table. Lorne looks at me again as I jump up full of rage to go kill the bitch.
Lorne grabs me and holds me back, he pushes me into the booth and sits next to me, blocking my exit.
“Let me go! I am going to fucking kill her!” I say gritting my teeth.
“Faithy darling, you know about the protection spell on this place don’t you?” he asks calmly.
I take a deep breath and nod. No violence can be displayed in this bar.
“It would do more damage to you than to her, and do you really think Willow needs to find out this way, with you creating a scene?” he asks, sometimes he can be a patronising bastard.
“Does Kennedy know that you know.” It sounds slightly confusing even to me but I think he understands me.
“Yes I told her about it. I also told her that I wasn’t going to tell Willow. It’s not my place to change someone’s path directly.” He takes a sip of his drink and smiles. “You can thought.”
Willow finishes her song and comes bounding down the stairs to sit with me as Lorne leaves to give his usual after singing speech he throws me a warning look. I take the hint and sit still where I am.
“Faith, what happened to your glass?” Willow asks looking at the glass on the table that the waitress is cleaning up.
I look at the glass and don’t say a word for a few seconds. “Accidentally knocked it over.” I say after ordering another Pepsi.
“You’re bleeding.” Willow states looking at the palm of my right hand. I look down and examine it. I pull out a small piece of glass and wipe my palm with a napkin. Willow holds her hand out to put mine in it, I oblige and she looks closely at it, I assume looking for more glass bits. After a minute or two she wraps a clean napkin around it and sets my hand down on the table.
