Chapter 14: Afternoon Phone Calls

Venka’s Kitchen

Venka’s POV
The sun had awaken me just after noon, knowing I wouldn’t be getting any more sleep I got up showered, dressed and came to the kitchen to grab a bite and to call my dear frère along with planning what to tell the Slayer, her Watcher and her friends. But first my brother.
I call his cell, it took me weeks to get the techno phobic douleur in to buying one, but all I get is a maudit message saying to call Joes Blues Bar along with the bars number. I sigh and dial Joe’s bar knowing its open at this hour; Joe picks up on the first ring.
“Hey, Joe it‘s Venka is D there?”
*”Hi Venka, no D isn‘t here he is head out to Sunnydale. Why?”*
“What?! Who told him where I was at so I know who to kill!!”
*”Connor.”*
“Connor?! Why the enfer did Connor tell D? No wait, who told Connor D was even there?”
*”Adam told Connor D was here and Connor asked to talk to him. Don’t know what he told D.”*
“Adam?! That man is so dead!”
*”Why did you want D for anyway?”*
“Huh? Oh I wanted to ask for his help.”
*”Well he left early yesterday morning so he should be there soon. All the guys did was send him to you a little early, so why are you so mad?”*
“Yeah I know Joe, but I wanted to tell D when and if I ever needed him. So the two idiots are still dead.”
*”Ok Venka just don‘t do anything permanent to the two ok? Oh yeah Adam wanted me to tell you if you called that Van Helsing was in and told him that he was headed towards the Hellmouth, so keep an eye out for him and his friend as well ok?”*
“I won’t Joe. Really? Thanks I’ll keep an eye out for the three nimrods.”
We hang up and I fume as I dial Connor’s number. That âne! He knows I didn’t want D here till I was ready for him! That Scotsmen is so dead, once Tepes is gone I’m killing Connor a few times!! At that Connor picks up.
“YOU ÂNE! WHY THE HELL DID YOU TELL D WHAT I WAS DOING!!”
~”Nice to hear from you Venka. I told him because I thought you could use the help and didn‘t you tell me that you would let D kill Tepes?”~
“Yes I said I would, but I wanted D here when I wanted D here, not before! I had planned to let D think I JUST found out what Vladimir is up to. I wasn’t going to let him know I‘d known about this for a month! Now D is going to drive me nuts over this, you âne!”
~”I’m sorry Venka. But I was worried about you.”~
“It’s ok Connor, I’ll deal with my frère. But you my friend are still in deep merde.”
~”I know, just do me a favor?”~
“What?”
~”Don‘t do anything permanent to me, please?”~
“Hmm……I guess so.”
~”Good. So how has the Hellmouth been?”~
“Not bad. Vladimir showed up last night, the douleur got me very mad.”
~”How so?”~
“The âne tried to lie to me.”
~”Is he really that stupid?”~
“Yes he is. Though that isn’t the worst of it, the fact in Van Helsing in headed here which mean he’ll bring along Carl.”
~”Those two trouble magnets on the Hellmouth? I feel sorry for you.”~
“Yeah, well it could be worse. Adam could be here.”
~”You do just realize you just jinxed yourself, right?”~
“Damn. Ohh well, I need to go, talk later?”
~”Ok, yeah call when you get a chance. And don’t forget to call after everything in done!”~
“Will do. Au revoir mon ami.”
We hang up and I head up the stairs to grab my coat and sword. It’s the Hellmouth, day or night you should keep a weapon handy at all times.

Hope you like. I didn’t really plan on this chapter but it wouldn’t go a way so here it is. Hope I kept Joe and Connor in character.
