"JB, what’s going on here?" Buffy demanded, looking pissed-off and commanding in the fluffy terry-cloth robe. Out of the corner of her eye, she saw Spike standing behind her, managing to look threatening, even though he was completely naked. "Spike, it’s OK. He’s a friend."

"Bloody right he’s a friend. Though not to the likes of us, he’s not," Spike hissed. "Where’s your buddy Flagg, demon? Off devouring babies?" Buffy could feel Spike’s anger in her head. *Bloody wanker.* she thought clearly, and then thought *I’ve obviously been hanging around with Spike WAY too much.*

JB smiled at Spike in a conciliatory gesture. "Spike, let me explain. I think you have me confused with someone else."

Buffy placed a hand on Spike’s chest to hold him back. "Give him a chance to explain, Spike," she pleaded. Spike didn’t say anything, just glared at JB, but she felt his tension decrease a bit. *Better be bloody good,* she thought. Again with the Spikeism’s.

JB handed Buffy a package that he’d been carrying. Spike scowled suspiciously at him, and JB said, "It’s just clothes for you, Spike. Maybe you’ll want to," he looked down and then away tactfully, "throw some pants on. Then we’ll have coffee and a nice chat." Buffy noticed that JB’s other hand held a tray with three paper cups on it.

Buffy opened the package and extracted a pair of blue jeans, athletic boxers, socks, and a white t-shirt, handing them to Spike. "Had to guess on the size," JB said. "Hope they fit."

Spike tugged on the boxers and button-fly jeans, not taking his eyes from JB the entire time. The jeans were slightly too big and drooped down from his hips, showing the top of his boxers. *Just like a kid* Buffy thought. *He looks so cute.* JB handed two coffee’s to Buffy, and she tried to hand one to Spike. "Don’t drink that, love," he said, taking both cups from her hands and placing them on the bedside table. "Don’t take anything from him."

"Spike, he’s OK. I feel it. He’s good," Buffy soothed. "My slayer senses aren’t telling me any different."

"Buffy, love, he’s not human. He’s a demon, and a real bad one at that."

"Spike, he feels good to me. Not evil. JB?" she pleaded to him. "What’s the story?"

JB chuckled slightly in his deep, sexy voice. "You’re actually both right," he said. "I am a demon, kinda, but I’m not evil at all. However, I can see where Spike could be mistaken. I believe that you’re confusing me with my twin brother, Celex."

After the surprise had time to wear off a bit, JB encouraged Buffy and Spike to sit together on the bed, while he took a chair. Spike would now accept the coffee, but he still kept glancing untrustingly at JB.

"A long time ago," JB began, because this was a story. And he had a flair for the dramatic. "A long time ago, there was no heaven or hell. There was no earth. There was just one dimension and it was peopled by creatures that we would now call gods. Then, the mightiest of the gods decided to create the universe. Her name is unpronounceable in your language – I’ll just call her The Mother. When she was finished, she and her lover enjoyed themselves, she a being of light and he a being of dark, creating and observing what they decided to call "life". They had much time together, while the other gods tried to copy what she had created, making their own dimensions. None of them, of course, could compare to the original, but there are some pretty interesting copies." Buffy put up her hand like a child in school. "Buffy?" JB asked. "Is this the original or a copy?" she wanted to know. He chuckled deeply. "Buffy, my dear, you are currently living in the one and only original." Buffy thought of the dimension where she was in a mental ward, and her mom still alive, and wondered who had created that one. She snuggled closer to Spike, missing her mom, but glad that she’d stayed in the one and only with him. He gave her a quick grin, and then turned his attention back to the black man.

"Anyhow," JB continued, "one day, the lover’s attention strayed from his queen, and a beautiful human woman caught his eye. The Mother had created humans in her own image, and this one was breath-taking enough to rival The Mother herself. When The Mother found out about her lover’s infidelity, her rage was infinite. And when she found out that their illicit union was fruitful, she was inconsolable. He pleaded with her to stay her wrath, but she would not be placated. She ordered her human priests, who led the worship of her, to destroy the woman and her offspring, twin boys. However, one priest secretly worshipped the lover instead of The Mother, and he was able to replace the true children with his own, and they were killed instead."

"His own CHILDREN?" Buffy said unbelievingly. "He killed his own kids to save some other guys’?"

"Not ‘some other guy’, Buffy," JB said, "but a very mighty god, surpassed in power only by The Mother. The priest was rewarded for his efforts, but that’s another story. Suffice to say, the true children were saved, but separated to different dimensions, for their own safety. One was raised in the light, and one in the dark. Their father, The Mother’s lover, was cast out of heaven. He blamed the priests for the death of his human princess, and his own downfall, and has hated all humans with black ferocity ever since. He became the dark prince of the underworld; his sole mission in life to torment and destroy everything beautiful that The Mother had created. His hatred still burns bright and is reflected in the son that was raised out of the light."

"So," Spike interrupted, "Are you actually telling us that this ‘lover’ bloke is Satan, and you’re one of his twin kiddies?"

"Wow," said JB, "you’re pretty quick on the uptake. That’s it exactly."

"Sons of Satan," Spike mused, while Buffy sat silently in shock. "That d bed be the name of a bad drive-in movie. So you’re Satan’s little laddie, yet you’re not evil? Is that what you’d have us believe?"

"Spike," JB said calmly. "You know I’m not evil. You can sense evil, as can the Slayer. I was lucky enough to be raised in the light, and not poisoned like my brother Celex by my father’s insane ramblings. Yet he’s not evil either, just mistaken. There is hope for him yet."

"Spike," Buffy asked, placing a hand on his forearm "can I ask you a question?"

He looked at her tenderly, still amazed at her beauty and love for him. "Anything, sweetheart."

She smiled at the endearment – it was only the second time that she’d ever heard that word from him and she liked it. "How come you don’t know JB? When I came here, Lorn told me to contact him. Wouldn’t he be the same guy you talked to when you got here?"

"Well, Buffy, he probably would have been, but I met a Farash demon on the flight, both of us being in the baggage container and all, and we got to talking, and he told me about this Celex bloke. The Farash was going to join Celex’s army, so I just went with him. I never had to call Lorne’s friend."

"OK, well that makes sense. Now for my next question; why did this Celex have you in jail? What did you do?"

"Well, pet, it was all about a bet………."
