chapter 10
Remember this? Well my comp died ages ago and I lost everything, including already written chapters and all the story notes. My son was fiddling with the broken comp and managed to extract a load of files, this was in there. So if you'd like more I can now continue, but if it's too late I'll scrap the story.

Chapter 10
While Wes and Xander were otherwise occupied, over at Spike’s things had got well…. Busy.
Spike had remembered that he was probably going to have visitors, and he could hardly lock Angel out of the way, so they would have to lie. He hated the thought of lying to his friends, but it was the safest way to ensure Angel’s safety, and theirs, they couldn’t let slip something they didn’t know.
Tara turned up first.
“I hope I’m not intruding Spike” she said shyly.
“Hell Glinda you’re to quiet to intrude pet.” Spike replied pulling her into a hug. She blushed shyly, then noticed Angel.
“Oh I’m sorry, I didn’t know you had company from work.” Tara assumed because he was wearing the blue cop sweats he was a police man. She blushed some more.
“Oh no, this is my nephew, Liam. Liam this is Tara, Jaffa cake smuggler extraordinaire.”
Tara giggled. “Stop teasing or I won’t tell you why I came. Oh and pleased to meet you Liam, though I didn’t know Spike had a nephew.”
Angel smiled shyly at the flustered young woman.
Spike sighed, more lies coming up then. “Well technically he’s not my nephew, but Dru’s. When her sister died, Liam’s mum, his Dad took him to Ireland when he was a tot. So I’ve not seen him since he was tiny, but his Dad kept in touch, and when Liam grew up so did he.”
“You arrived here real fast then.” Tara said, immediately accepting the story.
“Er.. Um yeah, soon as Uncle Will rang yesterday I packed a bag and flew over” Angel hoped he sounded shy and not as if he was lying.
“Oh well of course you would, I didn’t mean….” Tara struggled for words thinking she had made Angel uncomfortable.
“Hey, we know you didn’t mean anything. Now spill poppet, what’s the reason you came alone?” Spike had his arm around Tara, he felt her sigh with relief.
“Oh well beware of soon arriving food parcels of tremendous size. Oh and brochures from every local funeral home and florist. Er…. Offers to go buy Dru something pretty to wear, and probably house cleaning on an industrial scale.” She looked at Spike he just so didn’t need any of this, which she had pointed out but had been scowled at.
“Ahhh, right. Good job I sorted all that this morning then when I went to collect Liam from the airport.” He smiled at her.
Tara bit her lip. “They just want to help, really.”
“I know pet, and it’s ok. I’ll figure out something to send em off to do. But you? I think I got a job for you already.”
“Oh anything, just name it.”
Spike walked up behind Angel and ruffled the long dark hair. “Do ya think you could give Liam a bit of a tidy up? Perhaps just a trim? Maybe some highlights. Give the kid a new look. He needs cheering up. All his luggage went missing on the flight.” Angel had leant into the brief touch. Spike couldn’t help the smile on his lips. The kid was like a puppy starved of affection.
Angel looked up at Spike. He’d agreed to changing his appearance, even said he would cut off all his hair. It looked like Spike liked his long hair. And Angel, who had never really had anyone play with his hair discovered he loved it being touched.
Spike shuddered inside as Angel looked at him. A tremor of what sneakily felt like lust passed through him. He shook it off, his emotions must be shot to hell he decided. He also blamed it on Angel having beautiful big brown eyes.
Tara’s heart melted watching the two men. She thought they were bonding well, despite the circumstances and the amount of time they had not seen each other.
“Oh I would love to. Losing your luggage is awful, I lost mine once, took six weeks to turn up.”
Gabe came out of hiding by Angel’s legs to investigate Tara. He rolled on his back to have his tummy rubbed when she squealed with delight. “Ohhh he’s adorable. Wes said he was a mangy mutt.”
Spike laughed. “Don’t suppose ya want to give him a home do ya pet?”
Tara shook her head. “I couldn’t, as much as I would love to. I couldn’t have him in the shop. He would be alone a lot. Besides Miss Kitty Fantastico would have a fit.”
Spike sighed. Looked at Gabe who seemed upset he was trying to get rid of him, looking up forlornly and wagging just the tip of his tail. “Gabe, ya don’t want ta stay with me, I’m crap with animals.” Gabe whimpered, but plodded over to Spike to rub against his legs. Spike rolled his eyes, Tara laughed.
Angel smiled. “He’s decided he’s yours now Uncle Will, I think you’re stuck with him.”
Spike raised a brow at the ‘Uncle Will’, it gave him a fluttery feeling in his belly. He liked it.
Tara came over, took a turn at running her fingers through Angel’s hair. “Why do men always have the nicest hair? If I abused my hair like Spike does it would have fell out by now.”
Spike was about to defend himself when the bell rang. “I’ll go” Tara said and ran out the room.
“You gonna cope kiddo?” Spike asked Angel.
“I will if you do. This is awful lying to your friends, it must be hard for you sir.”
“Call me Spike, or Will, pet. And yeah, it’s hard. I feel a right git doing it, but it will keep them safe too”
Angel nodded his understanding, and stood to hug Spike. He looked so lost.
People coming to give condolences and they were having to act.
Spike hugged back, surprising himself. He had almost fell apart in front of Tara’s gentle affection, Dru’s death hitting him hard all over again. For a while he had been lost in work, but now reality had just come steaming in, along with Buffy.
