Chapter Ten
Chapter 10
The two girls were sitting on park bench hidden from the main road by some landscaping, this was a favorite spot for lovers, and Vampire attacks, so Buffy knew about it as well. Sitting there with her red headed witchie friend, Buffy was making plans. She was trying to make sure that she didn’t loose Willow to her mother’s manipulations, and various schemes to break up the friendship.
One thing she hadn’t counted on was Willow’s cowardice, now that she lost her powers.
Willow was so afraid to be out, even though it was day time, and the sun was shining brightly. Without her magic, she felt vulnerable, and she was afraid of every little thing now.
“Willow you have to calm down, I am here to protect you, I am still the Slayer,” Buffy relied confidently. She still felt the pain from the explosion in the lab, but she still felt that she could take on anything that came at them.
Whimpering Willow just curled up more on the park bench, afraid, and wanting her magic back.
Sighing at annoyance at the girl, Buffy just sits there, and broods like Angel would have done.
~~ FLASH~~
Blinking at the bright light, the two girls rub their eyes trying to see again, and when they do there stand an a young handsome man, wearing of all things a shirt and toga combination, making look like he stepped off stage of a Greek play or something,
Seeing him there Buffy jumps up to attack him, only to be flung back by a wave of Tempest’s hand. “Listen little girl, we could go one all day like this, and all that would happen is that you get hurt more. I just want talk to about what happened, and I want to make you a proposition. Okay?”
Knowing when to be quiet for once, Buffy just nodded, and Willow squeaked out and “Okay.”
Sighing at the pathetic lows he had to go to defeat a prophecy, Tempest sat down on a chair that he made appear. All of this “god like” magic was straining his real magic to the extreme, but so far he had managed to pull it off.
“Now ladies, my name is Tempest, as you can guess, I am a Greek God. Now before you blow up, some of us are not happy with what those three did to you, and the out come of what happen to your men. Being bond to that back stabber Alexander Harris, its to much to bear, but we were ordered not to interfere. Something about a prophecy that they were needed for. Well I am here to tell you a group of us don’t like this one bit.”
“So what are you going to do about it?” asked Buffy.
“Well nothing, really. We, meaning I and the others, are under strict orders not to even think about it. Well I decided to do something about it. I can’t help you magically or even physically, because the others would know, but I can give you some info. If two people mentioned in the prophecy were to say have accidents that would prove to be fatal, then you might be able to break the bond without Willow’s magic,” the demon said.
“Oh really, and which two people would that be, that is if I believed you,” Buffy said. Not realizing that she was falling for the demon/warlock’s charm.
“Cordelia Chase, and one William the bloody, aka Spike, as I believe you know him,” said Tempest, in the smoothest way possible, like it was everyday that he told someone to kill someone else. Which normally he did, he rather not get his hands dirty, so to speak.
“So if we kill or stop them from fulfilling their part of the prophecy, I might have chance at getting Oz back?” asked a hesitant Willow. She, at this point, was will to do anything to get her Oz back. He at least could protect her, after Buffy lost her powers to the Watcher’s Council.
“Yes, but not only that, if the Council finds out that you stopped the prophecy from happening, there might be a chance that you would get your powers back, young witch, and the Slayer here will never loose hers,” promised the demon/warlock. Willow startled, for a sec she was sure he could read her mind.
Which was a bold face lie, he knew that if they helped it would seal their fates, but he really didn’t care at this point, he just wanted that damn prophecy stopped. He didn’t look forward to spending time in hell.
Smiling at each other, the girls nodded in agreement. Hurting or killing Cordy and Spike was not a problem to them, they hated the two anyway, so anything to stop what was happening, get or save their powers and having their men back, well it was all to the good.
Smiling at the girls, and knowing that he had them, Tempest stood up, “I must be going before the other Gods notice that I am gone, and cause trouble. I won’t be available to help you directly, but I will be watching. So be careful, the others, if they found out, will try to stop you from killing the two,” warned Tempest.
Nodding their understanding, they watched as Tempest faded away from view.
Smiling at each other the two girls began making plans on how to accomplish their goals.
*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~
Across town the men had been researching when Oz yells:
“I have the date, and oh my God it’s the same day at Buffy’s Council trial. In fact the moon will be in perfect alignment at midnight that night, shit, just like the prophecy said,
Time will tell
Who should go to hell
With the ring of final bell
Well the final bell will be at midnight that night, and we have to kill Tempest or we will go to hell, which means what? That the hellmouth opens up again?”
“Damn it, can’t we have one prophecy without involving the hellmouth,” complained Xander.
Smiling at him the rest of them started laughing. Pouting Xander crossed his arms and stuck out his lower lip.
Angel got up and walked around the table, and grabbed the young man in a back breaking hug, “Now, Xander you know we didn’t mean it that way,” Angel said as he snuggle his head against Xander’s, and kissed him behind the ear.
Sighing, Xander just snuggled back, and smiled at the group.
“Okay, I think we have all the answers that we need, but how do we get Cordy on board, I know Angel can handle Spike, but Cordy is something is a totally different creature,” Xander starting the ball rolling by saying.
“Yes I agree, how are we to bring her in on the group of saviors?” inquired Giles.
“Basically we tell her the truth, and go from there. It seems the best policy,” said Oz.
Nodding his agreement, and not being ready to release Xander, Angel just sighed.
“Since I am the only one without a history with her, I think it is best if I talked with the girl,” stated the vampire.
“Yes, that maybe the best policy all around,” commented Giles.
Nodding their agreement with the older man, Xander and Oz just gave Angel pitiful looks, like they didn’t envy him all.
*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~
That night, after the sun had gone down enough Angel went looking for Cordy, and hoping to catch her is a good mood, so he could talk with her without getting his head handed to him on a platter.
Starting at the school and working his way outward, he finally found her at the bronze, but to his surprise there were to others with her, trying to get her outside. Buffy and Willow.
Now what are those two up too, the vampire thought.
Following them outside he stayed in the shadows and far enough away not to trigger Buffy’s slayer senses. AS he listened in he didn’t like what he was seeing or hearing.
“Buffy you better have a good reason for dragging me out to this filthy alley,” complained Cordy. She really didn’t want to be here, but Buffy mentioned something about a way to free Xander from the bond with Angel and Oz. She really didn’t believe them but Cordy wanted to know what they were up to.
“We just wanted to talk to you about a plan to free the guys of this ….. bond,” the hatred in that one word, alerted Angel that this might not be on the up and up. Both female Scoobies were up to no good, Angel could just feel it, plus the stanza about:
Enemies within and without
False friends will cause doubt
Demon with time will have clout
Kept playing through his head, he suddenly realized these were the false friends that the prophecy warned them about. Listening to them some more in the hope if getting more information, Angel crept silently closer to the trio.
“Listen, a guy by the name of Tempest told us that if we stop two people from getting together with the guys then the bond would be broken,” Willow said, pleadingly.
“Well which two, and how do we stop them from joining with Xander and the other two,” Cordy asked, all she wanted was Xander free so that she could be with him.
“Well, Spike is one of the two, and we have plans on killing him, as for the other, well . . . . . . . . its like this Cordy, it you. If you bond with the guys then the bond will be permanent, and we can’t free them. So to make sure that doesn’t happen, we are going to do this,” Said Buffy. Almost before Angel or Cordy could act Buffy attacked the cheerleader, and almost staked her, if Cordy hadn’t raised her arms in time. Striking Cordy in the arm, blood flew everywhere quickly covering the three girls.
Angel charged in as soon Cordy yelled for help, knocking the Slayer down, and grabbing Cordy, Angel raced out of there, at vamperic speed that neither of the two remaining girls could hope to meet. Buffy was still down and Willow was only human, and Angel was long gone before they could re-cover from what had happened.
Racing against the clock, Angel ran, carrying the girl all the way to Giles place, not even bothering to knock, he barged right in on the startled men.
“Giles, Cordy is hurt, Buffy and Willow attacked her. They seem to be under the impression that Tempest wants to help them break the bond. In order to do that, they plan of killing Spike and Cordy. I just barely managed to stop them from killing Cordy. Help she is bleeding, and I can’t stop it.”
Seeing the dazed young woman in his arms, and hearing what the two female Scoobies had done, Xander raced over to Cordy and took her from Angel, placing her on the couch, started putting pressure on the stake wound in the upper arm the she had.
Giles quickly brought over the big first aid kit, he knew that the girl would need stitches, and thanked the Gods, that most of the Scoobies could perform this simple first aid task.
Cordy lay on the couch, moaning and in a dazed state, not sure what was happening. All she knew was that Buffy had attacked her, and Xander was helping to save her.
After a few minutes the blood had stopped, and then she felt the pain of the needle going in and out of her upper arm, and she moaned louder.
“Easy Cordy, we have you, yes I know it hurts, but until we can get it stitched, you will continue to feel the pain. Afterwards we can give something for it, but we need you awake right now,” explained a frantic Xander.
Moaning and nodding her head at understanding what was going on, Cordy settled back and awaited for Xander to be done with the needle and thread.
As soon as Xander finished, and even Giles had to admire the handy work that Xander did, they gave her some pain pills, and took her into Giles other bedroom to sleep.
Turning back to Angel, Xander demanded to know what had happened. After explaining what he saw and overheard, Angel also explained about the stanza and what it must have meant.
Nodding his head, Giles said” I agree, and now those two have gone to far, that have attacked a full human, and that mean death by the Council. Once they hear of this there is not even going to be a trail, only a meeting and then a wet team will be assigned the task of taking those two out.”
Suddenly there came a banging on Giles door, and then it burst open revealing an angry Buffy and equally terrifying Willow.
“Where is that bitch,” demanded Willow. “She has to die in order to free you guys, and so that I can get my powers back” she screamed at them. To all of them there it was clear that Willow had become unhinged, and that she was not in control of herself. The Willow they use to now would never behave like this.
Giles quickly got up and stood between the men and the outraged girls. Quickly muttering a spell, and making a few mystical gestures, the two girls were blocked from coming further into the apartment.
“I would suggest that you two leave. Once I inform the Council of your actions they will be after you to terminate your lives.”
“Oh, I wouldn’t be too sure of that Giles,” said a smug Buffy. She still believed the lies she heard from Tempest, about the Council being on their side if they stop the prophecy he had mentioned.
“What lies has Tempest told you, Buffy,” Angel asked. He was more concerned about what she had planned on doing than whether or not the Council was going kill her.
“Buffy, you have to listen, Tempest is a demon/warlock that can control time, he is why we must join with Cordy, Spike, and Giles in order to defeat him. He has been lying to you both,” pleaded Xander. He didn’t want to see Willow killed, and if he could just persuade them to help them stop Tempest, the Council might let them live, at least that is what he hoped.
“No, your lying, you little bastard, you want to keep me powerless, scared, and afraid all the time, I won’t believe you. You just want to keep Angel and Oz to yourself, well we won’t let you,” screamed Willow.
Giles wondered how much more of this screaming before his neighbors call the cops. Then he snorted, like the cops would come over here after dark.
Thinking that Giles was snorting at them, Buffy tried to attack him, but was re-buffed when she hit the mystical force field he had thrown up. She went flying backwards and hit the remains of Giles’s door, after a spectacular show of sparks and colors from touching the force field.
Screaming in outrage, Buffy got up and stormed to the edge of the field, “Giles let me in, I need to kill Cordy in order to save everyone else, and you know I am right. That asshole Xander just has your mind clouded with his new powers. That’s right, he must be controlling you. You would never turn against me like this; it must be Xander’s doing.”
What Xander found truly pitiful about that statement was that she actually believed what she was saying, that he, Xander, was some type of svengallie, to be able to control people’s mind. Or that he would stoop to that level.
Snarling at them, Buffy grabbed Willow, and ran out of the apartment as fast as she could drag the struggling Witch.
Waving his hand, Giles made the force field drop, and Angel rushed over to the door to make sure that Buffy and Willow were really gone. Repairing the door to the best of his ability, Angel barracked it, and hoped it would keep Buffy out for a bit.
Sighing, and practically falling onto the couch, Giles all but collapsed. Oz quickly ran over to the liquor cabinet, and poured Giles a stiff drink, and brought it back to him. Smiling his thanks, Giles downed it in one gulp.
Xander meanwhile started pacing, and worrying. Turning back to the couch, he asked Giles, “Do you thing we need to warn Joyce and Dawn about Buffy? Are they in any danger from her and Willow?”
Not even stopping to think, Giles quickly motioned for the phone, hitting speed dial, and immediately got Joyce on the on the end.
“Joyce, grab Dawn and get out of this house, get over here as fast as you can, I will explain once you get here, but hurry. Don’t stop for Buffy or Willow, in fact ignore the fact that they even are alive, just get over here. No questions, just go.”
Saying this Giles hung up the phone and tossed it on the chair next to him.
“God, I hope she doesn’t stop for Buffy,” moaned a frustrated Xander.
*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~
Slamming down the phone, Joyce turned to yell, “Dawnie, get down here, and grab your coat, we have to leave like now. Something is going on with your sister, and we have to leave.” Joyce then sighed and pinched her nose, as she heard Dawning complying with her orders.
As Dawn came storming down the stairs, Joyce grabbed the girls hand, and rush to the car, peeling the tires as she left the drive way.
“Giles better have a good reason for this, that is all I have to say,” Joyce mumbled, as she sped down the road and out of the sub-division that they lived in.
She drove right pass Buffy and Willow, not paying any attention to their frantic waves to slow down, in fact swerving to miss Buffy when she stepped into the street.
Cursing under her breath, Joyce sped on, with Dawn just hanging onto the side of the door like a life line.
*~*~*~*~~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*
KNOCK KNOCK KNOCK
Angel rushed over to the pounding door, and after making sure of who it was, he quickly removed the stuff that he used to barricade the door, and let in Joyce and Dawn. He jumped back as the lady came storming in with an angry look in her eyes, and a scared Dawn following behind.
“Rupert Giles, if you ever call me up like that in the middle of the night, the world better be ending,” intoned an angry Joyce Summers.
“Ms. Summers, please calm down, your scaring Dawn, and there is no need for it, “ Xander said calmly, trying to defuse the situation before it got out of hand.
“Ms. Summers, Joyce, I really have a good reason, if you would just calm down, I can tell you, and you can help us stop your daughter before more innocent victims get hurt by her hand,” explain Giles.
Sighing, Joyce and Dawn removed their coats, and sat down on the couch, pretending not to notice the wet spots that looked liked spilled blood.
Sighing, Giles first asked if they needed anything to drink, and after getting them their drinks, he sat down, and tried to figure out how to tell them the news.
“Giles, just spill it, what is going on that I almost ran down my own daughter?” demanded Joyce.
“I’ll tell you what is going on, your little girl tried to kill me tonight,” said an injured Cordy from the hallway.
“What do you mean by that, Cordelia?” asked Joyce, wondering what the young girl was talking about.
Thrusting her arm out, she showed them the bandaged wound. “This was caused by your daughter/ The Slayer tried to slay me tonight, and if it wasn’t for Angel I would be dead right now.”
Nodding her thanks and smiling at the vampire for saving her, Cordy continued, “She said something about me and Spike joining with these guys. And that by killing us both, it would free the guys from this bond so that she and Willow can have their boyfriends back,” continued Cordelia.
“Well that is not going to happen,” replied Joyce. “If need be I will protect you with my life, Cordy, as I am sure will these guys,” indicating the four men standing around the room. Oz and everyone else just nodded.
Walking over to Oz, Xander hugged him, asking “Are you alright? You have to be upset by Willow’s behavior as much if not more so than me.”
Xan, I will get over it, I just need sometime to process it that’s all,” Oz sent Xander.
“Well process it all you want Oz, but I am going to whoop some major Witches ass when I see her next, “ Cordy said. Not realizing that she was answer an mental communication, rather a spoken one.
“A Cordy, Oz didn’t say anything,” commented Dawn, with a puzzled look on her face.
Laughing at the confused look on Cordy’s face, Xander told Giles to please explain to the others what was going on and happening, while he walked over to Cordy, and took her into the other room to talk with her.
*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~
After closing the door, Xander turned towards Cordy, and smiled, trying for an innocent look, but failing miserably.
“Xander, that look never worked on me when we were dating, so why do you think its going to work now?” said a smiling Cordy. “Now tell me what the hell is going on, and why does little Miss Vampire Layer think that I am going to join with you guys in a communal living arrangement?”
Xander quickly outlined what they knew from the prophecy, and her part in it, vague as it was.
“Now Cordy this doesn’t mean sex or anything, it did say like a sister or brother, so that could mean just a mutual acquaintance, and all that,” Xander supplied.
“But what if this about Spike, and you mentioned six, who is the sixth person? Ask a very subdued Cordy, she had a lot to think about, and it was a bit overwhelming.
“Okay, here is the stanza that concerns you, Spike, and the sixth person, Giles,” replied Xander as he got ready to repeat that part of the prophecy.
Man who studied law
Man who looked and saw
Woman who cheered them all
“We discovered from Angel that Spike was studying law when he was turned, Giles is the man who looked and saw, and you, Cordy, at the woman who cheered them all. At least that is what we hope it means,” commented Xander.
“With you and Giles both starting to pick up our mental communications, well, it means that we might be right after all. With at least in regards to you two. No one else is able to do it, and, okay here it is, we have been picking up both your thoughts very easily. We heard you plot revenge on Buffy and Willow last night at the Bronze.”
“I see, look, can you give me a few minutes alone. I need to work this out, and change my world view a bit, okay,” asked a slightly scared Cordy.
“Sure, but remember this, and the guys know it as well, I NEVER stopped loving you,” Xander said, as he leaned in and kissed her forehead.
Getting up off the bed, Xander crossed the room, and closed the door behind him. Walking into the room, his presence suddenly stops all conversation as they looked at him expectantly, and he just stood there.
“She needs sometime alone to think and work things out, I guess,” Xander said with stooped shoulders. Angel feeling the despair, and fear from the younger man, slowly walked over and pulled him into a kiss, Never fear, you will always have us, Angel sent to the younger man.
It does not bother us the you still love her, we have known and approve, she will make a great den mother, Oz sent as well.
Don’t worry my boy Cordelia will do the right thing, she has learned to do that since meeting you, and because of you, sent Giles, who decided to test he new ability.
Will your four stop talking about like I am not in room, oh, right I am not in the room, a stray thought from Cordelia was heard.
Joyce looked at Angel kissing Xander, and then she saw Oz get up and join the two men in a trio of kisses and pats, at first she thought it was slightly erotic, and then she saw it had nothing to do with sex, but reassurance. They were reassuring a love one, one who was in pain of some sort.
Then she noticed a slight smile on Giles face with a look of concentration, and then all four men suddenly laughed.
Confused and more than a little put out Joyce asked, “What the hell is going on and what are you four laughing?”
“Joyce, I forgot to tell you one of side effects of what happened the other night and with the prophecy. It seems that the boys can communicate silently with their minds, and as the other 3 of the group are pulled into their orbit, that ability is transferred to us as well. I can’t tell you why or how, but it is happening,” answered Giles.
“Just now we were reassuring Xander, and Cordy made a joke, and we all caught it, so she now has the ability. We were right about her part of the damn prophecy, now we just need one more, and unfortunately, the person is Spike.”
“You mean you have to join with another vampire,” demand Joyce. “No offense Angel, but one vampire is too many in my opinion,” she continued.
“I understand, and you may be surprised, but I agree with you, but fate deals this hand, and well, I just won the jackpot, that’s all,” angel said as he smiled down at his two lovers.
Smiling back him they tried to snuggle closer to the standing vampire. They could feel the warmth and the love behind his statement in their minds, and it felt great.
Oh please, any more I am going into a diabetic coma here fellas, Cordy sent as she came into the room. I could get use to this type of conversation, she continues.
Giles just smiled at her and sent, I am glad you decided to join us, least in the living room, he amended quickly.
Out loud for those without mental communication, Cordy replied, “Oh, don’t worry, I will be joining in the group get together, as well. You need me to at least ad style and grace to the group,” she said seriously.
“Hey, I have style,” said Xander, looking down at his clothes.
“Only when Angel dresses you,” Oz said.
Putting on a fake hurt look, Xander stuck out his tongue at Oz, and pouted.
“Well this is all well and good, but what are we going to do about Buffy and Willow,” demanded Dawn.
“I really don’t want to have to go around being afraid of my own sister, and her crazy best friend,” she continued.
“Honestly, I don’t know. With their attack on Cordy, it moves them into a whole new category of dangerous. The council needs to be informed, even if I am loath to do so.”
“I understand Giles, and if what you say is true, and I am not saying it isn’t, then she needs to be brought under control, and I am afraid you and your Watcher’s organization are the only ones who can do so,” said Joyce.
Smiling in sadness at her and nodding at her statement, Giles silently agreed with her.
The two girls were sitting on park bench hidden from the main road by some landscaping, this was a favorite spot for lovers, and Vampire attacks, so Buffy knew about it as well.
