It took a few weeks for everything to come to a head. Ironically enough, it happened in bed, or close to it. Either way, it was an encounter Buffy would never forget.
Before all that, a few things happened. Buffy decided that enough was enough, she couldn't keep doing this- this being the vague togetherness with the reluctant Watcher and the total avoidance of the boyfriend. Riley, was, however, getting a little antsy. The initial glow of the not-tank had worn off and now he was back in the dutiful boyfriend mode. Thankfully the slayage had been especially heavy these past few weeks, and, well, it was a convenient excuse. All this avoidance of both of the idiots in her life had an unfortunate side effect.
She was horny-as-hell.
A horny Slayer led to a frustrated Slayer, which led to a careless Slayer, which led to the position she now found herself in, upside down in a web of monster goo, waiting to be eaten by something that looked like a cross between a spider and a pound cake. It smelt like demon dung and drooled all over her.
Yuck.
This is the price she would pay, thought Buffy, strung up like a piece of laundry, drooled over by a walking cake and having two idiot men between her. It wasn't instinct that got her out of the mess she was in. It wasn't a last minute rescue by either the army, Riley or one Watcher, in the end, it the annoyance factor. Buffy was so pissed at both men that she it it all out on the cake. She pounded the demon into mush, after executing a perfect flip and kick that Giles had taught her. It was perfection, the poetry of the Slayer at her peak. Once done with the demon dujour, Buffy went off to deal with the other mess in her life, one boyfriend, one whatever, and one gigantic mess of her newly purchased boots. Maliciously, she thought that she'd make Giles lick it off.
Once clean, Buffy found herself losing her resolve. She really had no idea where to begin. All her conversations with Riley began with "hi, I've been sleeping with Giles so I think we should break up." Her conversations with Giles went beyond words and pretty much were her beating Giles into submission to get the doofus to admit to feeling something, anything. Giles perfected the art of saying nothing and avoiding everything, especially what their relationship was, and it had to come to a head somehow. Whacking the Watcher had certain poetry to it.
First things first, Riley, the easiest of the two, Buffy thought, sort of. She entertained thoughts of simply ignoring Riley and presenting her and Giles as a fait accomplie, but that wasn't very nice. Besides, maybe at the end of all this, there wouldn't even be a her and Giles. He certainly was doing a good impression of someone that didn't care one iota, and now she'd be presenting herself, ready for a commitment. She should be committed, Buffy thought. Giles never reacted well to being backed into a corner so she'd have to figure out a subtle approach. Never her strongest point, but she'd try-maybe. But beating him with a stick had a certain appeal to it.
Buffy was so wrapped up in her thoughts of Giles that she surprised herself when she ended up at Riley's dorm and then his door. Her subconscious must know something she didn't. Knocking she waited, and waited, then, coming down the corridor was someone she really didn't want to see, Graham. He of the, I have no homosexual tendencies but am still possessive of Riley, thoughts. The boy really needed to come out of the closet.
"Hey Graham, seen Riley around?" Buffy asked.
"No, why? You finally decide he's good enough to see?"
"Leave it alone, it isn't any of your business," Buffy replied.
"It is when it affects his work, his concentration, and his position. You've got him so tied up in knots, it's all I can do to keep him focused on his work."
"What? Catching demons? Look, first of all, it isn't any of your business, second, it isn't any of your business and third? You and Riley are a bunch of amateurs compared to me. I've been doing this for longer, I'm better than you and that just kills you, doesn't it? You got all used to being the big bad demon hunters and it gets you that me, an itty bitty girl, can do it better than all of you put together. Brings out those feelings of impotence doesn't it? Knowing I can do it with a pointy little stake and you need a really big gun? Feeling the size difference?"
Graham visibly twitched, his face twisted into a grimace and he moved as if to attack Buffy. Just the thing Buffy was spoiling for, a fight with an idiot. She waited on the balls of her feet for Graham to attack. Attack he did. He came low at Buffy, swinging with his left arm while reaching with his right to grab her lower right arm and pull her down to the floor. Buffy swiftly countered with a backwards kick against the wall which propelled her off the ground, over Graham's head with a twist to land at his back. From there, she grabbed his left arm from mid-air, twisted it around to his upper back and slammed Graham against the wall. The entire exchange was over in seconds and with it, any chance of ever getting along with Riley's friends. Graham, his nose spurting with blood, slid face down against the wall and crumpled at Buffy's feet. She crouched down next to him and turned his face to hers.
Graham, his hand trying to stanch the bleeding, asked, "Who do you think you are?"
"I'm the Slayer, Graham. You might not respect me, but respect the title. My kind has been killing demons for centuries and while you might have a lot of toys to help you along, all I have at the end is me, and I'm very good." Buffy said to the man at her feet. She stood, energized from the fight and went out to the main campus in search of her prey, Riley.
She found Riley in the cafeteria, eating his four basic food groups. Riley was one of the few people she knew who actually made sure he ate in accordance from the pyramid of food each day. That, in addition to the vitamins he consumed, made Riley a very health conscious boy, and boy he was. Entranas has he was with the toys and tools of his job, he really didn't have any respect for the monsters she fought on a regular basis. In all honesty, and Buffy was all for this honest period in her life, Riley didn't really respect what she did. He kept thinking he could take her, beat her in combat, slay more than she did and of course, bag the Slayer. Buffy gave herself a mental shake; she really wasn't being fair to Riley. He was from Iowa, he was the American boy personified. It wasn't his fault that he was a glorified GI Joe with a phase-plasma-rifle or something like that. Riley was just trying to do good, and she had been the bad one here. She'd gone off and had sex, a lot of sex-her little voice reminded her-with Giles, twenty years her senior, her out-of-work mentor and not to mention incredible at sex Watcher. She was a bad bad Slayer and now she had to pay the piper, or at the very least, break up with Riley because she didn't want to play it safe anymore. Buffy didn't even know how Giles felt about her; she just knew she couldn't see Riley anymore. So she was in the cafeteria getting a soft serve ice cream and off to break up with Riley, who was currently eating his carrots with positive glee.
"Hey," Buffy said sitting down and glaring at Forrest. By this point she was positively sick of military hanger-ons. She really needed to talk to Riley before class or in an alternative universe, before Riley found out that she and Graham had gotten into a little tussle. Forrest, for reasons that were unknown to her, but showed that even the densest soldier could get a clue, left. Buffy was almost sorry, now she really had to deal with Riley and his carrots. Eww, colored food, thought Buffy. After purple demons, cake demons and the sight of bright orange, Buffy swore to herself to restrict her intake to all foods white. Fortunately, high on that list was ice cream. In the yummy soft serve that she'd loved for ages, and Riley, who she realized she never really loved. Not even a little.
"Riley," Buffy tried again, apparently carrots were big with boys from Iowa, and Riley was scarfing his down as if they would dissolve in a minute. Riley smiled at her, mouth still full of carrots, chewed an exact number of times and swallowed. After drinking his milk, also on the approved list of foods, he nodded back at her.
"Buffy, good to see you. I feel like we've hardly seen each other these past few days."
"Well, I've been busy, you've been busy, it's been a really busy time. We're bees."
"Huh?"
"Never mind. Look, Riley, I really want to talk with you. Can we go back to my dorm?"
"Sorry, Professor Walsh has me running tactical exercises all afternoon, can we just talk here?"
"Well, it really is private."
"Lean closer, that way we'll be in our own little table."
"Riley-"
"Buffy, its okay, come on, no one else is here but the two of us," Riley whispered.
Buffy found herself whispering back, "I think we should break up." Well that was subtle thought Buffy, but to be honest, she was the Slayer, being blunt was part of it. She really didn't have the time to waste on subtle, she needed to act fast, because waiting on the other side was one Watcher whom Buffy knew she belonged with, and she needed to get on with her life. She felt a little sorry for Riley, this had to be coming out of the blue for him.
"Buffy," Riley choked out, "we're in public."
"I know this Riley, I tried to get you to move, but you were all over the carrots. Look, please, I really don't want to hurt you, but, well, this isn't going to work.'
"What do you mean? Are we back at the regular guy thing? I am a regular guy, I work for our country, I go to college, and I love you. What, this is really sudden. Are you unhappy? Can I do anything? Buffy, I thought we were in love?"
"I don't think I ever was-in love-with you. I think I was in love with the idea of you Riley, and you don't deserve that. You deserve someone who will really love you, support you, and want to… I don't know…" Buffy said, trailing off at the end.
"Is there someone else? Have you been seeing someone else?"
Unfortunately, Buffy paused just long enough for Riley to start to turn red with anger.
"How could you do this to me, Buffy? I thought you were always honest with me, about us, how could you do that? Who is it? Is it Xander?"
Buffy tried not to snort ice cream up her nose at that. "Riley, it isn't as though there's someone else, it's more of me finally admitting what I want."
"And what you want isn't me."
"No, it isn't." Buffy replied reaching out to Riley. He pulled back, stood up and left table-world for the bright, florescent light of the cafeteria and with that, out of her life. Buffy just sat there, eating her ice cream and looking at the plate of abandoned carrots.
That night, while staking a few vampires, Buffy realized that she really hadn't lied to Riley when he asked if there was someone else. Giles had been very insistent about the absence of their relationship. The man just didn't know how to commit. Not true, thought Buffy, as she sprang off a tombstone and staked a newly vamped vampire through the back as he emerged from the grave. Giles just didn't want to commit. And then there were the scars, on his back. The ones she caressed at times, yet never asked about. Maybe, thought Buffy, absently staking the last vampire of the night, the time had come to go to the source. Or, at the very least, phone the source. It sucked that she didn't drive, but at least this way she stayed in shape.
Phoning Angel had been a big gory mess, thought Buffy as she walked over to Giles'. She'd gotten most of the details, known that Angel was still holding out on her, but known that there was probably a few more things better left unsaid. All that unsaid, had left plenty to be told, and it was all really bad.
Going into Giles', she noticed the ever-present tumbler of scotch. Now that she really paid attention to it, Giles was drinking quite a bit. She knew at least some of the reasons for it, she didn't know whether or not to be pissed or sorry for Giles. Since Giles was the type of man never to want pity, pissed at the Watcher seemed the way to go. Only, it really wasn't going to work, because there he was, looking up from the floor where he was kneeling by the bookshelf getting one of those enormous tomes out. Buffy decided to do something about this entire situation, because waiting for the shoe to drop, the blah blah to happen, or whatever other cliché that sounded right just wasn't enough. She needed to do something, and Giles was the nearest idiot to unleash her frustrations on.
So she did what any other woman would do when faced with the man who'd been driving her nuts for days, she pounced.
Buffy pulled Giles to his feet and pushed him onto the couch. She lay on top of him, her body stretched out over his. He brought her lips to his and they began to kiss, their legs intertwining together. The movement brought his crotch in contact with hers. Her hands slipped down on either side of him and underneath him. She rubbed down in him, hampered by the denim of his jeans. She needed to feel his cock. Her hands moved from underneath him and to his sides again as she pushed herself up and ran her hands over his tee shirt.
She slid down his body until she was sitting on his legs, surprising herself with the urgency she felt. Her hands moved to his waistband and fumbled with the button of his jeans. Getting it open, she tugged at the fly until the rest of the buttons opened and his boxers were exposed. She pulled down on the pants and Giles lifted his hips to let Buffy pull his pants down over hips. She slid her hand into the fly of his boxers and got his penis out. Her head bent down and she took his cock into her mouth. She could feel it harden in her mouth as she sucked on it.
Giles groaned and couldn't stop the movements of his hips as he arched up between Buffy's lips. She moved one hand to hold him steady and the other cupped his balls as his penis became fully erect. She rolled his balls in her fingers through the cotton of his boxers, the feel of the fabric against him drawing another deep groan out of him. Her mouth slid to the side of his penis and to the head as she sucked just the tip of his cock into her mouth. Her tongue swirled around the head, moving to the slit on the end and running over it. Giles' knees parted, pushing against her body as he fought the constraints of his pants and tried to spread as wide as possible.
His hands moved to her head and he moved her hair out of the way as he looked down to see Buffy's mouth moving around the crown of his penis. Buffy moved her head further down on his cock as she sliding her hand up the shaft of his penis. Giles moved a hand to her cheek resting his fingers against the sif hef her face and feeling his cock move inside of her mouth. His other hand left her head and slid underneath his shirt until it reached his nipple and pinched it between his fingertips. Buffy lifted her mouth ois cis cock to watch as Giles played with his nipple. Her hand left his hip and moved up under his shirt to caress his other nipple. She felt his pelvis shift and move beneath her hand cupping his balls. As he did so, the wet head of his penis brushed against her throat. She kissed his stomach and moved back to his crotch. She felt his fingers tighten on the side of her face as she thought he fought the urge not to push her head down onto him.
Buffy ran her tongue down the length of his penis and back up again. It swirled around the head of his penis and her hand cupped his balls and lightly squeezed them. She swallowed his cock again and Giles moved his hand once again to her hair and massaged her scalp while his other hand continued to play with his own nipple. She scratched his other nipple with her nails, remembering how he liked that and Giles growled from deep in his throat as she felt his balls constrict beneath her hand. She sucked harder on his penis Gil Giles let out a yell as he spurted into her mouth in hot, salty streams. Giles suddenly moved both hands to her arms and pulled her up to his mouth. His tongue thrust between her lips and his semen spilled into his mouth as he kissed her and swallowed his own seed.
She moaned as they both tasted his semen and then started as Giles moved her off of him. He slid onto his side against the back of the couch. Buffy ended up with her back pressed to Giles' chest and she felt his breath as he gasped against the side of her neck as one hand moved beneath her and cupped her waist. The other moved along her side as he opened her pants and tugged them down. His hand went directly to her silk covered crotch, soaked with her juices and pressed down on it. Buffy moaned, lifting her leg to give Giles some more room. Giles pressed his lips against her neck and bit gently into it, sliding a leg between hers. Her panties stretched tightly across her body and she felt Giles pressing closer into her. Against her ass she felt the wetness and the heat of his crotch. Her head tilted back and her hand went to Giles' hip and pulled him closer to her. Her fingers tightened on his boxer-clad hips as his hand dug into her panties and cupped her. Her panties held his hand tightly against her and his fingers moved between her folds.
With one hand, she pressed down on Giles' hand through her panties. Her other hand joined with Giles' as she interlaced her fingers with his. Her knee moved further up as Giles pressed against her clitoris, applying a constant pressure. His tongue licked the marks he had made against her neck and she pressed against his hand, her hips moving back and forth as Giles brushed against her clitoris with his fingers. Buffy began to cry out as Giles kept up the motions against her, pulling her into an orgasm that drained her. Even has she felt herself coming down, Giles would change the position of his fingers minutely, and she continued to feel waves and waves of heat coursing through her. Suddenly, she screamed as her clitoris began to pulse against Giles' hand. She felt her underwear become soaked as Giles withdrew, turned her and kissed her.
Giles moved his hand covered in her juices to the sweat soaked tendrils of her hair. He moved over her and then swore as he slid to the edge of the couch and off. Buffy began to laugh as she looked at Giles, tangled up in the space between the couch and the coffee table, pants pulled down and his penis hanging out from his fly. He looked up at her and frowned, following her glance with his eyes. He reached down and tucked himself away and pulled his jeans up. She leaned over the side of the couch and ran her hand over his chest. He smiled and brought her hand to his lips and kissed her, before losing control and giggling at his position. Buffy laughed as well, dangling her head down until her hair fell around his face.
Buffy ruefully thought later, if only she'd kept her mouth shut. She just didn't have the time to wait and well, she wanted to get on with her life. So she opened her mouth, and out poured everything.
"Giles, where do you want this to go?"
"Well, the bed would be nice," answered Giles, scooting her legs over and sprawling down next to her.
"You're doing it again, avoiding the issue."
"Mmm,"
"Giles, where do you want us?"
"I told you."
Buffy pulled her legs away from Giles and sat up, curling her legs underneath her, and tried to face the future, with Giles, no matter how much he wanted to deny it.
"Giles, I really want to discuss this."
"Buffy," Giles said, standing up and heading over to the scotch, "we've gone over this."
"No, we haven't, I've brought it up, you avoided, we've boffed like bunnies and then repeated the equation a few times. Well, a lot of times, good times, but Giles, this has to lead somewhere."
"As I've told you Buffy, the bed seems to be a good place for this to go," said the merry scotch drinker.
"Giles," Buffy tried, going over to Giles, taking the tumbler out of his hand, "I broke up with Riley today."
Giles, for the first time, looked a little wary. "Why would you do that?"
"What? Change the status quo? Make the first move? Put you in the position to actually deal with our relationship? Why? Because I want to be with you, you idiot, I want you and only you. Most older men when having a gorgeous blond throwing herself at the moron's feet would actually be happy. You on the other hand, look like there's pulp in your scotch."
"Buffy, I thought we established, I like pulp."
"Giles!" Buffy fought to remain calm, "stop it. I want us to really talk. I'm not going to beg, but we really need to talk. Now."
Giles moved behind the kitchen counter, putting an entire layer of concrete between himself and Buffy. He looked around for his glasses, but in that previously cute myopic way of his, couldn’t really see them. This time, he wasn't getting away with hiding behind the lenses.
"Talk to me," Buffy said, trying to remain calm, while also keeping an eye out for Giles. She was certain that if she took her eyes off of him, he'd bolt. "Please."
Giles just looked away and Buffy could see the muscles in his cheek jumping.
"Does this have anything to do with Angel?" That did the trick, Buffy noticed. Giles, rather than trying to avoid anything and everything Buffy, was actually focusing on her. Unfortunately for her, he had the 'let's skewer Mayors look.' Directed at her, Buffy knew she'd hit the crux of the problem.
"What the hell are you going on about?" Giles ground out.
"I talked to Angel-" and that was as far as Buffy got, because Giles just lost it.
"You talked to Angel. About me." Giles snapped. "Just what did the great vampire do-gooder say? How he cut into me, giggled as my fingers snapped, or was it about something else? How dare you. You've touched me, caressed me, and all the while said nothing about my," Giles couldn't meet her eyes at his next words, "special time with your vampire lover? You force him down my throat, but you never bother to bloody ask me. You had no right doing this. You want to know the status of our relationship? Absolutely nothing. How-"
"Angel didn't say any of that Giles. I figure that all that was between us. "I know I let you down in the past. I just didn't see. Angel said it wasn't the physical things he did to you that broke you, it was what he did to your emotions. I don't want to do the same. I won't. Decide Giles, I want to be
with you. That's what we talked about, because that's what you won't say to me."
Giles' head slipped into his hands at Buffy's words. "Just go. Just bloody get out."
Buffy walked to the door, opened it, but before she left, all she saw was the image of Giles, bowed in the kitchen, looking dead.
It had been a nice long trip. After the whole Giles fiasco, Buffy threw herself into school, slaying and chasing some manufactured demon named Adam. As far as she and Giles slipped apart, they kept finding themselves coming back together. Giles, got demonized, sort of like Midas-ized, but with mucus, and then there was Adam. Once again, it was a ritual that got them all together, without the sex, fortunately, adding Willow and Xander to the mix would have been a little much. There was the hug, with Giles, and maybe, just maybe everything would be alright.
It had been a fairly eventful year, Buffy thought. She'd passed all her classes, killed an uber-demon, broke up with her boyfriend, destroyed a massive government project and somewhere in between fallen in love with the one man who might never be able to return her affections because of some messed up stuff her previous lover had done to him.
If she really wanted to sit down and think about it, this year sounded like a really bad soap opera with ghouls. All it really needed was a dwarf speaking backwards to complete the picture.
Buffy was packing up her dorm room when the knock she'd been dreading sounded. Due to the last minute saving the world from the ultimate demon rampaging through Sunnydale, she was hurrying to pack up before the noon deadline. Cursing and tripping over the battleaxe she'd left on the floor she opened the door to see Giles, who was looking fairly serious.
Giles came in and took in the mess that was her room with one glance. As nervous as he looked, she was surprised he was even here. She tried telling her self that the fact her stomach was in knots had something to do with the chili she had at lunch, but that didn’t really work. She just stared at Giles in silence, knowing instinctively that she was stronger in silence than in speaking.
Giles looked at her and took a step closer to henvadnvading her space.
"You, in you, on you, with you. I want to walk with you, wake up with you, be with you for as long as you'll have me." Said Giles as he took her in his arms and held her in the moment.
