"We need to talk." said Angel walking into the library.

"Actually, I need to talk to my son." said the Immortal putting down his book.

"That's not going to happen until you talk to me first." stated Angel. "He blames you for his mother getting sick."

"What...why? I had no control over that. I am not a God." said the Immortal. "If I could keep the people I love from being hurt, I would."

"I didn't say it was rational. He is hurting right now because you abandoned them." said Angel

"I had very good reasons for leaving them." said the Immortal. "Just like you had your reasons for what you did for Connor."

"What? How do you know about Connor?" Angel narrowed his eyes suspiciously.

"I have always made it my business to know what is going on with my son and his extended vampire family." stated the Immortal.

"Is that why you slept with Dru and Darla?" asked Angel sarcastically. "To be closer to Spike?"

"Don't be facetious. I didn't pursue them initially. But I needed to find out how he was doing without making them suspicious. Besides, from what Darla said, I thought you and William were lovers at the time. She certainly did enough complaining about the massive amount of time you spent together." said the Immortal

"She was jealous of Spike?" asked Angel incredulously.

"Shouldn't she have been?" asked the Immortal

"No! He was in love with Dru. He never saw me as anything but a companion... back then I mean." Angel sidestepped.

"Ah... so have you always loved him?" asked the Immortal.

"No. I had no soul. I wanted him, and hated him for not wanting me." said Angel truthfully.

"Does he know?" asked the Immortal

"No. And I don't want him to." said Angel regretting his admission.

"I will keep your little secrets Angel, if you help me. Get William to listen to me." the Immortal said

"I don't like being pushed." Angel said angrily. "Besides, I don't think he will listen to you no matter what I say to him."

"I am desperate. Just use your influence. You are lovers... right? Or does he hate me more than he loves you?" the Immortal manipulated.

"I'll see what I can do." Angel sighed, trapped in his lie.
