Angel, sat up, disoriented. Sunrise was about an hour away. He’d better get up and… *Fuck! What the hell happened?* He was covered, head to toe, in blood. In blood and…ash. Mangled body parts dotted the ground like visceral flowers in an abstract painting. *What the…*

He fell to his knees, vomiting, as it all came back to him.


~Flashback~
His heart leapt into his throat when he spotted his boy. The soldiers might be a little problem, but it had been a while since he’d had a really good brawl. All thoughts stopped and time stood still, however, as he watched his boy lodge a branch in his own chest.
~End Flash~


He could remember clearly the image his baby’s ashes made as they swirled delicately to the ground. The next part, however, was not so clear…


~Flashback~
There was blood. Screams rent the air and the sound of breaking bones lodged in his gut. There was so much blood…and that fucker Finn’s face – contorted in horror and pain. So much blood…
~End Flash~


Noting, for the first time, the object clenched in his hand, he turned opened his hand and shuddered. Riley Finn’s dick. Stunned, he let it drop to the ground. His boy was gone. He had failed. He had been stupid and arrogant and a prick, and now his beautiful baby boy, his light, his *Everything* was gone.

*Gone.*
