Chapter 10

Spike brought the body of the demon he killed back to Buffy's house, carrying it to the portal and throwing it through. Two seconds later Buffy was in his arms sobbing. “Oh god Spike I know…I know why they’re coming after the Slayer line.” She said through her sobs. “Spike I need..”

“It’s ok luv, Big Bad’s got you.” Spike said picking her up and carrying her to her room. “Ok Buffy, just rest awhile.” Spike said gently

“Thanks Spike I just…I can’t take it…” Buffy said softly.

“Yes luv you can…you are strong, sometimes strength just needs to recuperate…rest awhile then we’ll talk.”

“Thanks for handling them…I couldn’t get through this without you.” Buffy said to Spike.

“I’ll always be by your side Buffy. You know that right?” Spike asked.

“Yeah…I know that Spike.” Buffy said deep in thought. “When I went through that portal…they showed me that a Slayers power is derived from demons…that’s why the scourge is attacking the line. Because they know…and they are scared”

Suddenly Spike saw a Vampire rushing by.

“My Turn luv?” He asked

“Yeah…go to it.” She smiled softly at his back as he ran after the Vampiress. She stopped running and was looking for a place to hide. Spike punched her, knocking her down to the ground. Spike kneeled down to grab the young woman, but someone picked him up and threw him into a nearby tombstone.

“Whatcha wanna do to her, vamp?” She asked as she circled Spike. “Huh? Somthin' like this?” As she punched Spike

Spike leaped to his feet. “Nice punch you got there. Lemme guess. Leather pants, nice right cross, doe eyes, holier-than-thou glower...you must be Faith.”

“Oh, goodie. I'm famous.” Faith shrugged and grinned at him.

“Told you were coming. Bit of a misunderstanding here. I'm…”

Faith cut him off. “Spike.” He nodded at her. “Yeah, we've met before.”

“We have? I don't think we” He was interrupted by Faith kicking him in the stomach
“Bloody hell! What're you doing? I'm on your side.”

‘Yeah? Maybe you haven't heard. I've reformed.” She said as she punched Spike

“So have I. Kinda human now.” Spike said as he punched Faith. “I reformed way before you did.” Faith punched Spike “Stop...” Spike punched her “hitting...” punched her again “me! We're on the same side.”

“Please. You think I'm stupid?” Faith asked

“Well, yeah.” He said grinning at her.

“You were attacking that girl.” She said as she punched Spike
Someone punched Faith in the face, knocking her down.
“Sorry, Faith. I didn't realize that was you.” Buffy said innocently.

“It's all right, B. Luckily, you still punch like you used to.”

Buffy glared at Faith a moment, then turned to Spike “You OK?” She asked concerned.

“Yeah. Terrific.” Spike said scowling.

“Are you protecting vampires? Are you the bad slayer now? Am I the good slayer now?” Faith asked shocked.

“He's with me. He is almost human now. That means he has a soul.”

“Oh?” Faith asked curious

“He fights on my side.” She said shrugging and looking at Faith. “Which is more than I can say for some of us.”

“Yeah, well if he's so good, what's he doing chasing down defenseless”
The young woman that Spike was chasing stood up, growling, and attacked Faith, knocking her down.

“That's one of the bad guys.” Buffy said pointing.

“You should make 'em wear a sign.” Faith fought the vamp woman, and reached around to Buffy's pocket full of stakes “May I?” She asked as she took a stake. “Thanks.”
Faith continued fighting the vamp woman, then staked her.

“OK, catching up. Anything else I gotta know?” Faith asked

“Nice to have you back.” Buffy replied.

“The bad guys always go where the power is. They're protecting the vineyard or something at the vineyard.” Buffy stated emphaticly

“You realize what will happen if the Slayer and her girls get it, don't you?”

“They won't.”

Spike kneeled in front of her and looked into her eyes. “There's only one thing I've ever been sure of: you. You're the one, Buffy.”

“Hey. Heard you got something of mine.” Buffy said cockily, hands on her hips

“So...you found it. Not impressed. 'Cause the question now, girly girl, is can you pry it from solid rock before I come over there…”

Buffy grabbed the handle and pulled the weapon out of the stone one-handed with ease. She looked it over.

He was shocked. “Hmm. Darn.” He exhaled worriedly. “Now, before you go hurting yourself with that thing, why don't you do yourself a courtesy and hand it over now?”

Buffy cocked her head to the side. “Yeah? You want it?” She hoisted the weapon up casually.

He smiled nervously. “You don't even know what you got there.” He said taking a step back

“I know you're backing away.” Buffy said.

“You think wielding some 2-sided doo-dad's gonna make a difference? I'm not letting you out of here with that thing.” He said.

“Yeah, there's a plan. Get ready. Time's up.” Buffy said addressing everyone.

Giles was sitting by the window. “It's a lot more than that.” He said standing up. “Buffy, what you said, it—it flies in the face of everything we've ever—every generation has ever done in the fight against evil.” He looked at Buffy and smiled gently. “I think it's bloody brilliant.”

“I hate this. I hate being here. I hate that you have to be here. I hate that there's evil, and that I was chosen to fight it. I wish, a whole lot of the time, that I hadn't been. I know a lot of you wish I hadn't been either.” Kennedy and Rona looked away. “But this isn't about wishes. This is about choices. I believe we can beat this evil. Not when it comes, not when its army is ready, now. Tomorrow morning I'm opening the seal. I'm going down into the Hellmouth, and I'm finishing this once and for all. Right now you're asking yourself, "what makes this different? What makes us anything more than a bunch of girls being picked off one by one?" It's true none of you have the power that Faith and I do. So here's the part where you make a choice.”

“You first, B.” Faith said as she handed Buffy the knife. Buffy sighed and took the knife from Faith and used it to cut the palm of her hand so that it was bleeding freely. She handed the knife back to to Faith. Moments later, after all the girls had cut their hands, they all held them out over the seal, activating it. It opened and parts sunk into the ground and formed a staircase into the hellmouth. Buffy went in first, followed by Spike and Faith then all of the others.

“Oh...my...Goddess...” Willow said breathlessly as the scythe started to glow white in her hands.

“These guys are dust.” Vi said confidently.

Buffy, Spike and Faith fought them off with kicks and punches as usual, but the other potentials had super strength now as well. Vi jumped and kicks a down Scourge. Rona punched a Scourge in the face, knocking it down. Amanda staked a Scourge through the heart. Vi beheaded a Scourge.

“Willow?” Kennedy asked

Willow's hair was completely white, she still glowed with white light from the spell. Willow's facial expression was one of divine ecstasy as she looked heaven-ward. Willow panted as the power ran through her. When the scythe stopped glowing, Willow did too. Willow's hair turned back to normal, but she herself was still recovering from the incredible experience of that spell.

“You...are a goddess.” Kennedy said breathlessly.

Willow smiled weakly at her “And now you're a slayer. Get this to Buffy.”
Willow handed the scythe to Kennedy, who took it and ran out of the office. Willow sat there, panted then collapsed on her side, with a wide grin. “Ha! That was nifty.”

Buffy used the Scythe to her advantage, with everyone helping in the fight all of the 500 Scourge were dead. “Everybody out.!!!” Buffy yelled as the Hellmouth started to shake and quake.

They all helped each other and soon everyone was out. “Get everyone on the bus.” Principal Wood yelled “We have to get out of here.”

Everyone piled into the school bus and Robin drove like a madman as the school started collapsing in on itself pulling the surrounding area with it. “I can’t believe everyone made it.” Buffy said to Spike as she passed by him. They were helping bandage the wounded inside the school bus 10 feet away from where the big crater that was once Sunnydale stood.

“Looks like the Hellmouth is officially closed for business.” Faith said

“There is another one in Cleveland. Not to spoil the moment.” He bent to pick up a rock and threw it into the canyon.

“We saved the world.” Xander said with awe

“We changed the world.” Willow said walking up to Buffy’s side. “I can feel them, Buffy. All over. Slayers are awakening everywhere.”

“We'll have to find them.” Dawn said

“We will.” Willow said happily.

Giles paced behind them. “Yes, because the mall was actually in Sunnydale, so there's no hope of going there tomorrow.”

“We destroyed the mall? I fought on the wrong side.” Dawn said shaking her head.

“All those shops gone. The Gap, Starbucks, Toys "R" Us. Who will remember all those landmarks unless we tell the world about them?” Xander asked.

“We have a lot of work ahead of us.” Giles said softly.

“Can I push him in?” Faith asked Willow only half joking.

“You've got my vote.” Willow smiled

“I just want to sleep, yo, for like a week.” Faith said putting her arm around Robin and resting her head on his chest.

“I guess we all could, if we wanted to.” Dawn said softly.

“Yeah.” Willow smiled. “The Scourge is scrunched, so... what do you think we should do, Buffy?” She asked

“Yeah, you're not the one and only chosen anymore. Just gotta live like a person. How's that feel?” Faith asked

“Yeah, Buffy. What are we gonna do now?” Dawn asked.

As the others chattered around her, Buffy just stared straight into Spike’s eyes. Contemplating the hole formerly known as Sunnydale. As she thought about what came next, she smiled.
