Chapter 1: Beautiful Lie
There use to be a time when I could read people so easily with just a glance. I could see what they wanted me to be and would be that person for them, even,if only for a few moments. Growing up my father always told me that we were living a lie, that one day, when everyone stopped being such a hardass,so damn stubborn, they would see,see that everything was a lie. Something they had made up in order to cope because reality was too overrated. Noone wants to see what's really there, noone wants to admit the truth...everyone just wants to live in the lie...
"Faith?..."
Pivoting her head Faith found herself drowning in the emerald green eyes of her life long friend and maybe more than that,Keiran. It always amazed her, this ability that Keiran had to always look good, no matter what time of day or what the circumstances were. Maybe it was how her rich black hair contrasted against her tan skin,or how her eyes seemed to always be looking straight through her soul,
or just maybe it was how innocent she looked. Pfft! Innocent her ass. Keiran was a tiger, beautiful,
charming,deadly,deathly deadly.
"What is it?" Faith replyed, her eyes catching the gleam of silver and ivory dagger tucked messily into
the waistband of her black jeans as she stood in the treshold of the motel room.
Keiran studied her face, sensing something wasn't right, like always since they had accidently killed
Tara, one of their own,in the heat of battle. She sighed,it still killed her that that had happpened to
Tara, how could everything being going smoothly one minute and then the next they were all struggling not to bleed to death and trying to get away. It had been horrible, and she was pretty sure it was still on everyone's mind, but it had weighed down the hardest on Faith, because she felt responsible.
"We need to go Faith. You need me to finish the job for you?"
Faith choked back the lump in her throat, shaking her head no to her friend's offer. She turned her attention back to the young girl handcuffed to the rail by the massacred table next to the bed.
"Please," she pleaded with her, tears cascading down her flushed cheeks, "I'm sorry. Really,I'm sorry."
Keiran took this as her cue and stepped in,slowly kneeling next to Faith and locking stares with her soon to be victim. Faith scooted to the side, she knew Keiran, she liked to fuck with peoples heads
wether it be playing around or on the job,it was just the way she worked.
Reaching out a hand,Keiran carrased the side of her face gently,a small honest smile grazing her features. "Why are you sorry? What did you do?" she asked in soft voice that might have made it on a child's audio book.
"John-Johnny. It was Johnny wasn't it?" the girl laughed manically,no humor in the gesture only fear.
"I should have known he would pull something like this. How much did he pay you to do this prank?"
Faith snorted unplesantly, removing her own knife from her leather jacket pocket and pressing it into
her throat hard enough to draw blood. Leaning in,she moved her lips to just inches from her ear. "Tell
me,does that feel like it's a prank?"
"Faith."
Rolling her eyes,Faith cursed under her breath, once again stepping aside.
"Please, why are you doing this to me? What did I do to you?" she continued crying.
Keiran heard a honk from some two blocks away, signaling that it was time to get moving. "It's Kennedy,
it's time to go." Faith whispered.
Keiran nodded, taking out a syringe from her pocket and flicking the tip. The girl's eyes went wide as the needle approached her arm. "Sorry baby, you didn't do anything worth getting killed over,we really planned on just scaring you,but since you heard our names and saw us-"
"But she came to me!" She looked at Faith.
Keiran fought the urge to slap the sad look off of Faith's face, she was pissed now. "I know that she went to you. She's at fault here, not you. I'm sorry." she whimpered, sticking the needle into her vein.
"No! Please...wait...no,"
The drug was immediate, and it quickly dispatched through the small body of the already exhausted girl.
Keiran observed as the little blonde's eyes slowly dimmed, each second that went by feeling like an
eternity, until finally they closed. Snapping her head she snatched Faith's forearm, drsgging her up and
pointing at the now dead girl.
"You see that Faith? That's your fault. That's your fault cause you can't get over shit. Now lets go."
Keiran tossed her arm, stomping out of the room.
Faith gave the blonde a final look. "Johnny," she chuckled softly, tears stinging her eyes, "you died living the lie didn't you? The beautiful lie."
"Faith!" Keiran shouted more forcefully.
"I'm sorry Dawn." she told the room, slamming the door behind her.
