Valentines Surprise

Note: This is a late V-Day story but i finally got it out of my head and down on paper. how you enjoy and please R&R.


Buffy had been talked into going away for Valentines Day to stay in a cabin. She was away from Demons and all the other things that went bump in the night. She was the only one here who was alone. Willow had Tara, Xander and Anya were still strong together and who was Buffy here with? No one. What with Riley leaving and then her being dead there really wasn't time to go and look for a sweetie.


Buffy hadn't ever felt real when she was with her friends. It wasn't there fault. Tara had even tried to tell her that there was nothing wrong with her. She was perfectly normal except for some sort of metaphysical sunburn that allowed Spike to hurt her when they fought. 'Spike.' Buffy thought.

Every emotion Buffy possessed only ever came back to her when she was with Spike. It was a weird feeling. she was supposed to hate him; he was a vampire and she was the Slayer. But everytime he was near her, her pulse raced and she felt human again or as close as she had been. All he had to do was shadow her in the graveyard and she felt happy beyond all reason, or if she was really into it she could pick a fight with him.

She was brought out of her thoughts when knocking sounded at the door. "I got it guys!" Buffy shouted in the direction of the kitchen. Walking over to the front she opened it and was stunned. There was Spike in his usual black boots, black pants and duster but his shirt was different. It was a blood red long sleeved shirt that hugged his lean form making Buffy's mouth water. She looked him over and saw he held a single black rose. Buffy had never seen a black rose before. She had heard from Giles that it was the symbol of Vampires, but now a days Vampires had so many symbols it was hard to keep them straight.

"How did you find me?" She asked with a light play note in her voice that she hadn't meant to put there.

He leaned close and whispered, "I could follow your scent cross time itself." his voice was low and sensual it made Buffy's jaw drop and groan.

"Come on in." she said.

"You sure 'bout that pet?"

"Yes, I want you to." Buffy moved away from the door an allowed Spike to enter.

Spike offered Buffy the rose and then went to sit on the couch after she accepted. For a few minutes she stood rooted to the spot and just looked at him. He made a gesture for her to sit next to him on the couch.

"I'm not going to bite.' He said and it had Buffy blushing slightly. she sat next to him and just stared at the rose.

"Thank you Spike."

"Having fun?" He asked slinging his arm over the back of the couch.

"Not really, but things are looking up." She replied and looked into his soulful blue eyes. Everytime he had told her he lover her she never really believed him, but now there was something there that made her reconsider him. When she had come back he was there for her when the others got back to business as usual. Buffy could feel hot tears in her eye and she had to look away.

Spike placed a gentle hand on her back and was surprised when she turned suddenly and wrapped her arms around his neck crying into his shoulder. "I'm tired of being alone." he heard her sob.

"It's ok, you're not alone now, not ever again." Spike said and rubbed small circles on her back. he kissed the top of her head and just held her. Here was the slayer crying in his arms. She was pillar of strength but right this moment she was a fragile human being who hungered for someone to be close with. Spike prayed to what ever Divinity would listen to the prayers of the damned that she let him be there for her.
