worlds best dad

Worlds best Dad
Buffy Summers blinked when she found herself in the cold, well furnished mausoleum that was her “friend” Spike’s place of residence. The tv was on set to abc with some bland soap opera playing out on the screen. She didn’t need to look around she’d been here so many times, this week in particular, this old place was like a second home for her, but still she looked. The tall white refrigerator off to her left with the microwave near it buzzing lightly to let all who neared it know it was on, with a mug inside of it that read “World’s best Dad.” Buffy would have been amused at the thought of Spike being a father if she wasn’t so confused at the moment. Her blonde brows narrowed in thought, “I was in the cemetery,” she spoke silently to herself, “Now I’m here.” She thought a minute. “Hm.” Her thoughts were interrupted by a deep male voice with a heavy English accent.
“Buffy,” Spike said, Buffy jumped a bit when he spoke but was able to regain herself before he noticed. “You here for another romp around the cemetery?” he asked with a coy smile.
“No!” Buffy quipped instantly, “I’m not here for a…romp.”
“Okay, okay no need to get your knickers in a twist.” He said with his hands up in mock surrender. He smiled again and turned towards the microwave. “Then, if you don’t mind my asking,” he reached the appliance just as it rung. He opened it and pulled out the mug before continuing, “Why are you here pet?” he asked, he took a sip of the liquid that left a red mustache on his upper lip, then added, “Not that I mind the visit.”
Now it was Buffy’s turn to speak problem was, she had no idea what to say. “Think of a lie, and think of it quick.” She told herself urgently. “I-uh- there was a-uh, surplus of vamps lately…and they were goin’ after their own kind, and I wanted to make sure you were –had knowledge of the situation.” She knew that all the stuttering would make her hard enough to believe but the big words she was sure were a dead give away. She waited for his answer.
“So you wanted to make sure I wasn’t a pile of dust then?” he asked taking another sip.
“Uh- yeah.”
“Well, I’m not still as handsome as ever, huh pet.” That smirk was back again. That same smirk that Buffy had always wanted to knock off his well defined face but always ended up kissing it off instead.
“Whatever.” She replied. She then decided that this was way to high on the awkward scale and needed to do the leaving thing and do it now. “Well I came to see if you were alive and…I’ve seen, and you are so… buh-bye.” She turned on her heels and all but ran outside into the night, leaving Spike confused and a little disappointed.

“What was that?” Buffy asked herself as she walked quickly down the street, pulling her denim jacket around her tightly. It was kind of nippy tonight and she hadn’t planned on staying out all that long, because if she did she would have to hear the “Well if you stay out all night why can’t I?” thing from Dawn, and she wasn’t in the mood for it. “Why couldn’t those monks have made her less of a pain it the ass?” Buffy would often ask.
Those confused thoughts of why she had gone to Spike’s flooded her mind as she walked through the door of her house only to see…nothing. No one was there, no one that she could see from her place at the door way anyway. The tv wasn’t on but she could hear something going on in the living room to her left. She stepped into the house proper and turned to see her red-headed best friend, Willow, on the couch with her girlfriend Tara. They were busy with each other at the time. Back in high school what Buffy was looking at now would have struck her as odd maybe a little on the icky side but now it was kind of cute. She knew the two were in love. Tara, who didn’t have her back to Buffy at the moment, noticed the Slayer first and turned a bright red. She pulled away, and when green eyes asked questions, the blonde nodded to the doorway. Willow turned and smiled at her friend, “Oh hey Buffy, sorry ‘bout the openness we thought you were gonna be out a little longer. We can go upstairs if you want.” The two started to get up but Buffy stopped them.
“No, go ahead.” She said. “You two live here too, right?” she smiled as the couple gave her grateful smiles. “I’ll be in the kitchen if ya need me.” She said, “Proceed with the kissins.” She said and turned to leave.
Willow turned back to Tara with a smirk, “Now, where were we?” she said and leaned in, but Tara eased back a bit. “What?” Willow asked.
“Buffy.” Was all Tara said.
“What about Buffy?”
“She- she didn’t seem… I dunno w-weird to you?” She asked in her usual timid way of speaking that Willow found so attractive.
“Not any more so than usual, why?” she asked trying to care while her eyes were locked on that part of Tara’s neck that she was working on before the interruption. She pushed blond hair back and leaned in for it, placing a light kiss on that spot.
A gentle hand on Willow’s shoulder with the most subtle amount of pressure put an end to that. Willow pulled back. “Excuse me.” Tara said as she got up and headed for the kitchen. Willow sighed and hung her head, but the gentle lifting of her chin by a soft hand and the kiss on her lips by even softer lips had her eyes wide. “I’ll be back.” Tara said softly with a little smile that made the redhead smile too.
