Prologue: Welcome to the Fallout
Within the tight confines of the alleyway four warriors fought against a horde brought forth by Wolfram & Hart. Somehow they weren’t slaughtered during the initial onslaught, but they were far outnumbered. The assassination’s of the members of the Black Thorn set things into motion earlier than expected.
Battles which had been fought in the shadows for centuries were now being unveiled without thought of being discovered for this was the first battle and war had been declared.
“They will not survive.” One of the feminine members of the Powers spoke as the battle began. “They are not ready we are going to lose another realm.”
The war that had waged since the beginning of time had been played out in various realms. Sometimes the same warriors fought and lived the same lives sometimes they fought on the opposite sides it all depended upon the slightest changes in events. Some realms were completely different but one thing was the same the struggle between the darkness and light.
Realm after realm were being lost to the darkness and now it looked as if this one which held such promise now stood on the brink of extinction, as well.
“It is not our place to decide the time and place of such things, we merely put our warriors in place and they must fulfill their destiny or not.” Another shining member of the powers responded her gaze focusing on the battle as she watched her blond warrior fight valiantly.
William’s quest had been a long and hard one several times she thought him lost to the light only to find him fighting his way back without a soul. So when he went on his search she made sure he found what he was looking for even though it wasn’t what he thought he needed. Though she hadn’t planned on evil using it to control him that was just playing dirty something they chose not to do. Even now in possession of his soul fighting with every last fiber of his being he would be lost for it would not be enough.
Another member of the powers stood off to the side his dark gaze focused not on the battle playing out before the others but on a realm that was actually at its end. All because the powers on their side chose to play fair they didn’t want to acknowledge that in war fair sometimes wasn’t a factor, especially when their opponent had no rules, no ethics.
In all their existence he was the only power that chose to dabble within this realm. Most of the powers tended to stay away and not interfere with this plane of existence because of the volatile magic’s and creatures within the realm. Time moved more quickly there for an hour with in the realm they currently were contemplating was a month there. Not to mention that altering just one thing seemed to have cataclysmic effects not just in the world but on the person affecting the realm, as well.
The others preferred the less personal consequences so they played in other safe realms because its occupants were not quite as powerful, or as aware of their presence. The beings in this realm were not lesser beings but some their equals if not betters.
The signs were there for all to see that the final battle was coming for sometime and instead of sitting idly by watching again and again as their opponent moved methodically and without fairness of any kind, he chose to interfere in a place none of others would and create a warrior to call his own. It was to his advantage that someone else was defiantly interfering in the realm at present and was going to gift him with the perfect opportunity to give his warrior a second chance. Otherwise she would perish along with everything else within that realm and all its magic and glory would be just a memory.
“Portals have been opened on the forbidden realm.” The power announced watching as creatures that should never have left the realm were whisked away.
“That’s impossible we have blocked all portals from that realm.” The various members of the powers rushed over to see that what he said was true.
“It looks like Wolfram & Hart is pulling recruits for their army from various realms.” Another member’s horrified whisper filled their meeting chamber, as the same thing began happening in other realms. “That is strictly forbidden.”
“When have they ever played by the rules?” The power that watched the scene in the alley way spoke her eyes glowing with power her desire to save her warrior overruling all other thoughts, “If they wish to bend the rules then so shall we. It is our power that is blocking the witches from that realm from opening the portal, allow them to open it.”
“But we aren’t allowed.” One of the powers began but was silenced by clashes of thunder and lightening filling the room.
“We have already lost the forbidden realm it withers away as we speak, along with others in this war, shall we let our warriors perish because we don’t wish to break a rule or two. This is war.” The male power raged his body beginning to pulse with power. “Besides our opponents have already broken the rules as they have done time and time again. It is time we stop hiding behind our rules or soon we will find this realm conquered, as well.”
“Do you think that is wise?” Another power asked stepping forward. “The warriors from that realm are unpredictable look what lengths they went to win the war.” Glancing down at the scene playing out before them was a war they had never seen before where each side fought for victory no matter the cost.
“We have no other choice.” The female power responded sadly. Perhaps her warrior would survive the coming war, she hoped.
A smile touched the male Power’s lips as the barriers to the forbidden realm were lifted and his warrior was saved. He only hoped she wouldn’t let her past interfere with the only available future she had at the moment. Sometimes she could be quite difficult and that was putting it mildly but then she had cause.
Back in LA
“Bloody Hell,” Spike growled as another creature he couldn’t name took the place of the one he just managed to kill. One after another they just kept coming. As he traded blows with this beast he was very aware that Gunn wasn’t faring quite so well. Already injured he was starting to weaken and his opponent was taking advantage of that fact.
Angel cut down another beast, and turned to see Illyria faring well fighting several opponents at once. While the alleyway was confining it was also giving them an advantage but for how long he wondered. Only so may of their opponents could rush them at once through the portal though it seemed to be growing wider every second.
Their opponents seemed to be infinite when one was killed another quickly slipped into its place. Just then the sea of beasts parted and a woman with skin the color of an emerald moved forward her weapon ready.
“The time of humanity is over.” Her voice was a hiss a forked tongue flicked out over her lips. It was Illyria who moved forward and met the woman in battle. And the god who occupied Fred’s body was quickly outmatched. “If this is all the resistance you have to offer I pity your world.” The woman sent Illyria sprawling across the ground.
The woman raised her weapon and as she sent it in a downward stoke a vortex opened jerking her arm back. The horde was being sucked back into the vortex and the woman’s gaze turned back toward them as she was dragged toward the vortex. “This isn’t over; the war has only just begun.”
As suddenly as it had begun the battle was over leaving in its wake four warriors who could barely stand. Not wasting anytime they managed to get out of that alleyway alive though a little worse for wear, and they found themselves at Spike’s little hole in the wall apartment.
“It’s begun.” Illyria whispered as Spike laid the girl on his bed she was wounded but she would be alright after a little rest she was a resilient little thing. Gunn on the other hand needed a doctor.
“We know pet.” Spike murmured gently brushing back a lock of blue’s hair, meeting her gaze.
Angel helped Gunn to lie down on Spike’s couch and examined the wound on his side.
“What do you think that was, what sucked them back?” Gunn asked fighting back the urge to cry out as Angel probed his wound.
“Not sucked back, something was trying to get in,” Illyria whispered just before she passed out her body needed all its energy to heal itself.
“Blue’s out cold,” Spike sighed standing up and walking over to the other men.
“It’s actually not as bad as it looks.” Angel stood up. “We’ll need to stitch it up.”
“I’ve got it mate, done that once or twice.” Spike walked over to where he kept a first aid kit. Why he kept it in his apartment he wasn’t sure mostly habit from his Sunnydale days when he was with all the Slayers in Training. Spike grabbed a bottle of Jack and handed it to Gunn.
Gunn grunted unscrewing the cap taking a gulp then met Angel’s gaze. “We aren’t going to be able to take on what ever the hell that was on our own.”
“We need to call in back up, who knows how long we have before they come back.” Spike sighed knowing exactly who they were going to have to call and not liking it one bit especially after the whole trip to Italy and the immortal thing. Then there was the little or rather not quite so little guilt he harbored for leaving her like all the rest despite all his promises.
“I know.” Angel ran his hand through his hair. “Maybe you could call Andrew?” Angel asked Spike meeting the younger man’s gaze.
“Why is it always me?” Spike growled softly as Angel tossed him his cell phone.
“Because for some crazy reason the kid likes you,” Angel replied glancing down as Gunn chuckled taking another swig of whisky.
“Likes him, Spikes his hero he defiantly has got the hots for Spike.” Gunn smiled glad something was taking his mind off the pain.
“You just shut your gob or I will let you bleed to death.” Spike growled punching in the phone number as he spoke. Pacing back in forth in the tiny one bedroom hole in the wall Spike rolled his eyes as the little wanker picked up on the other end.
“Andrew we need to talk.” Spike began and a half an hour later he closed the phone glancing over at Angel who was putting the finishing touches on Gunn’s wound. Luckily Gunn had passed out about 2 minutes into the phone call.
“They will all be here soon.” Spike handed the phone back to Angel. “So what’s the plan?”
“We fight.” Angel responded.
“Sounds great with what, and we can’t rightly put up Buffy and the entire brood of slayer’s here.” Spike glanced around raising a brow.
“We can use the Hyperion, I still own it and as for weapons we have a store of them there. It’s in a centralized location and wouldn’t make a bad base of operations.” Angel sat down running his hands through his hair.
“So this is it.” Spike asked getting up and walking just a few feet into his kitchenette and grabbing two glasses he walked over to the couch and poured them both a drink handing one over to peaches.
“This is it.” Angel sighed knocking the entire glass back in one mouthful. “We are going to have to start gathering anyone we can to fight.”
“I know a few, but not nearly enough.” Spike sighed. “Soon enough everyone will be part of this and we won’t have to look for cannon fodder they will come to us, because they won’t have a choice human and demon alike.”
Angel poured another drink knowing Spike was right once the battle really began humans and non-humans would take sides and they wouldn’t have a choice they would either fight or they would die or worse they might find themselves enslaved.
Angel wasn’t sure what was worse facing the oncoming war or the girl from his past. Soon enough he wouldn’t have to wonder for because the Slayer’s were needed if what came through that portal earlier was any indication of what they would be facing. The war had begun, and there was no stopping what was coming.
Spike glanced away from Angel pushed off the couch and walked over to Blue. His thoughts briefly passed over thoughts of Buffy and the Bit but he would deal with those two and the other SIT’s when the arrived.
“What do you think she meant by them getting sucked back and something trying to come through.” Spike asked softly looking toward Angel who glanced over his shoulder. “Wolf, Ram, and Hart were already there so what else was trying to come through.”
“After seeing what came through today, I don’t even want to think about it right now, we need to rest while we have time.” Angel sighed
