Be A Man
Buffy slammed the door of the crypt shut behind her.
Spike better stay away from her family now, she wasn't gonna warn him again. Next time he corrupted Dawn he'd be floating on the breeze. She smiled at the thought as she wove her way through the familiar path across the cemetery.
Spike lay on his sarcophagus where the Slayer had left him. Gingerly testing how badly bruised his ribs were he pulled himself into a sitting position and holding himself up on his left arm he used the other hand to set his nose back into a straight line again. It was a wonder his nose didn't touch his ears the amount of times the Slayer had taken a pop at it. He found the bottle he was searching for under the throw he'd bundled up and twisted off the top, taking a huge gulp of Jack Daniels.
Pushing open her front door Buffy was greeted by Dawn and the annoying little brat routine #47.
Ignoring the whines about how unfair it was to hurt Spike, Buffy walked straight past her younger sibling to warn her mother yet again how dangerous Spike could be. Not that these talks were having any effect. Spike kept popping up like that proverbial bad penny.
Dawn came running after her big sister and pulled her jacket to make Buffy face her. Turning, Buffy put on her most bored look and glared. Unafraid, Dawn was not deterred and plainly asked why she couldn't see Spike anymore.
"Because he's an evil vampire." Buffy told her slowly as though this would help it to sink in.
"He's hardly evil Buffy" Joyce chipped in. "He's just lonely."
"Yeah!" Dawn chimed. "And he's nice to me."
"Someone has to be." Buffy muttered under her breath. "He's only luring you into thinking he's nice. Without this chip he would have eaten you.?
"Now Buffy. That's not true." Her mother reprimanded.
"Sorry mom. But I'm the Slayer. You have to trust me on this one. You should have friends that don't live in crypts, ones that can go out in the daytime and earn a living. Not vampires on leashes."
Dawn frowned, ideas racing around her head. She turned to look at her sister and put on her most dazzling smile,
"Yes Sir!" She saluted then stalked off. It just wasn't fair. It wasn't Spike's fault he was a vampire. Maybe she should ask him how it happened?
Dawn grinned as she saw Riley walk up the drive. Perfect. As soon as Riley took Buffy out, she could sneak back over to Spike's to talk to him.
