That's kind of a cop out having Fred decide she never really loved Spike. I prefer the messier and true to life route where any women in her position would be broken hearted and not be so understanding about his love and desire for another woman either. And Spike wouldn't do the honorable thing because when you're that much in love like Buffy and Spike are I doubt "because it's wrong" is going to be enough to stop them for long. The premise and the plot is interesting but I wish you'd write your characters a bit grittier. This fic has so much potential. Sorry if I offend it's just my tastes run to the more darker side.
