I'm sorry to have to say this but this story was translated with very poor English. I myself am not a native English speaker but I find it difficult to follow the storyline with all the wrong tenses and terms. I've given up at chapter 2.
It's really a pity because the idea is great and I believe quite exciting in its original language (French I suppose).
You might want to search for somebody who can translate it properly and your story should just do fine!
Maybe you can even post a link to the original for those who know French, I would be interested in reading it again.
